What a jerk. I race karts against Art in a faster kart and he still kicks my a$$. There is a lot more to driving than weight................read on

    - Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he will not compete in the race again unless the field is equalized.

Gordon, a former open-wheel driver now in NASCAR, contends that Patrick is at an advantage over the rest of the competitors because she only weighs 100 pounds. Because all the cars weigh the same, Patrick's is lighter on the race track.

"The lighter the car, the faster it goes," Gordon said. "Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our car is at least 100 pounds heavier.

"I won't race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away."

He does have a point. NASCAR fixed that many years ago and required the car+driver=minimum weight due to the weight advantage the smaller drivers (read: Jeff Gordon) had.

I am surprised that IRL doesn't have a rule where the weight limit is based with driver. I mean, the entire series is basically equality amongst all, option of two chassis, I think 3 engines, same brakes, etc, so why not same weight? F1 includes driver weights afaik (600kg minimum).

i call B.S. on this... There MUST be at least a hundred pounds difference between the heaviest driver and the lightest driver of NASCAR, not counting Danica... This is chauvanism at its best...

His point is very valid, I see that you are racing karts , you should know all about how much small weight plays into things ,over 500 miles it could be a big advantage. The rule does stink and is completely backwards. I don't think he has anything against Dana.

Men have more upper body strengh (ave. person). May be she should complain that's an unfair advantage.

Have you ever tried to hold one of those cars in a turn at speed? It takes some strength for 200 laps +

Then again, if she followed the "bolt on" thread she could add a few pound that way.

Then do the NASCAR drivers have them surgically attached for the two road races per year?

As for Robby, STFU and take off the dress. Go Danica!

This is exactly correct. If we are to suppose that racing is actually a sport, and the drivers are actually athletes and not just competitors in some extremely dangerous game, then they can get serious in the gym. I neither know nor care what the rules in NASCAR are. A larger driver might indeed have a strength advantage, unless his extra size is solely the result of massive quantities of adipose tissue. In horse racing, the jockeys are held to a minimum weight, and if they don't make it, the horse will have to carry extra dead weight. The reason for this is that the horse is the (at least ostensible) athlete. The same logic applies for the coxswains in eight man or woman crew teams. If we assume that, in racing, the drivers are the athletes and the cars are simply equipment, then the drivers should be accountable for their own abilities, physical endurance, and training. Maybe they don't have a stength advantage over her either - I guess it just adds to their humiliation.

He is just b**ching because Patrick is a girl, and his ego will not let him get beat by a girl. Perhaps he should get a sex change and then trim down to 100lbs too if he thinks that the rules in IRL is unfair. What a total jack-ass.

I've never heard of the driver not being part of the minimum weight rule. That is nuts.

Next thing you know the teams will be trolling the local horse tracks for the smallest jockey's around who want to trade the smell of horses for burnt methanol.

I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with Mr. Gordon.

The reason it has never some up before is that there has never been THIS much of a weight discrepency in racing. Other drivers have weighed 150 or 160 which is only 40 lbs lighter than a 200 lb guy, but giving up 100 lbs is A LOT!! Too much.

It's like Eddie Gaedel the old MLB (baseball) player who had ONE at-bat and was walked because he was like 3 feet tall and had the smallest strike zone imaginable. Anyway, after HIS at bat, they changed the rules to prevent that from happening again. I think they will do that here.

I actually was reading an article on Danica yesterday and it was her height/weight. She only weighs 105 lbs. When i saw that, I thought, wow, THAT must be a HUGE weight advantage. But then I laughed at myself for even THINKING they didn't have weight limits/restrictions/balances on the cars/drivers to equal things out. To now hear that they DON'T seems unfathomable to me!! Wow. With all the restrictions on things, I can't believe they don't. Oh well. They will after this year. NO doubt about it.

He has every right to be upset. Otherwise, take off all the engine/downforce/etc restrictions and let them ALL have at it.

NASCRAP drivers are whiner, I had respect for Robby Gordon because he did well in the 2005 Paris Dakar race. Now he is just another bonehead.

What's next then, height requirement? or age? even race? Bottom line is, Gordon is one of the "good old boys" that is just bitter about his own lack of ability as a race car driver.
