Hello first I'd like to say this is a wonderful website and I've been able to gather a lot of useful information. I have been considering purchasing a 99 or 2000 360 for about a year and ran across a 2000 with 43000 miles for $100,000 and wanted opinions on whether it was worth the savings or to stay away. Thanks in advance

IMHO, if money is a huge factor and you can only spend $100,000, it might be OK. Having just sold a F car, I think the high miles is not a good thing. Some day you will sell it and by then it could make it difficult to sell. Stay with a average miles F car. I consider average 2500to 3000 a year.

A nice NA, low mile 2000 is still in the 130's. At 43K miles you're asking for resale trouble. Can you up your budget because at the $$ you want to spend, unless you find a complete moron who doesn't know what he has, you will most likely be looking at story/Euro cars.

The good news is that whomever owned that 360 - got some good use out of it miles wise - good for him/her!

Couple of questions - how long do you plan on keeping it - 2 years 5 years 10 years?

The less time you plan on keeping it the worse the miles will bite you - the unfortunate thing with high mileage ferrari's is that most people, dealers, wholesalers, etc. do not like anything over 3 - 4K per year (and they perfer less).

I subscribe to the theory - if it is well maintained and documented that the service(s) have been done and the car is well cared for - high milage does not bother me.

This car should have had a few services (3 in total) by now with 1 or 2 belt services. It should have all the records, etc. If it does and you plan on keeping it - make an offer for 90K - it will not sell for much more than that.

There have been a few deals on 99 and 00 for 110K to 120K (sell price) - for cars under 20K miles - you need to look and find that private seller who just upgraded to something new (or is about too).

Honestly if I were speding 100K right now - I would look at a later model 355 Spider (or hard top depending on your preference). You can get a great hard top (and I mean great) for 75K and for just around 90-95K you could have a perfect 355 Spider (less if you go with a 95 - 97 spider). Plenty of performance - and will not lose much more value (10K) over the next few years.

If you are hooked on the Modena - I would probably look at spending 20K more and get a lower miles, well maintained example... (unless as mentioned you want to hang on to it for 5 years or so)...

I might be close to trading for a Murcielago and giving the dealer my 01 Red/Tan 7400 mile six speed Modena. I desire to keep my Diablo and my son is buying my ZO6. I bought the car Jan 01 from Shelton Ferrari with 293 miles on the clock. All miles have been rainless and the car has not been tracked. The last service has been done by Lake Forest Ferrari May 04. If I can come to terms with the dealer, I would take $140K. It only gets driven when no rain is forecast. Both service managers at Lake Forest can speak about the condition of the car. It also has the invisishield on the front bumper and mirror leading edges. BTW I also have a deposit on a F430 and will not get a car before late 06 at the earliest.

I've noticed that you've been plugging this car every chance you get. :)

I have no problem with that but I'm just curious what the big deal is about your never having driven it in the rain, to the point of even worrying about the forecast?

Not that it makes much difference to you but, for the record, the 360 has the best wipers I've ever come across. :)

    Good luck with the sale.

    No rain=extra clean, I guess.
