    Hi guys,

I was thinking of getting the Hi-Fi system upgraded (as we all know how great the standard one is) by changing the speakers and maybe adding an amp & subwoofer.

Do you know if changes like this can cause Ferrari to void the Warranty? or blame any electrical issues on the car to a new retro fit speaker upgrade?

Also likewise have any of you installed any radar detectors and again are there any warranty concerns on it?

    thanks!

I think you can swap out the speakers for superior ones with without affecting the warranty. If your new speaker gets blown, it wouldnt be covered. But a new speaker wont harm or alter the electrical system of the car.

Thanks for the feedback... Makes sense to just change the speakers assuming the OEM amp can power them okay.. will get them checked out over the weekend.

Let us know which speakers you found were best. I think that the front door tweeter and woofer is all you need to swap out. I would try to get a reference component system with external crossover (some models allow custom adjustment), as long as the factory head could drive them.

The other speakers in the rear and front dash area use twiddlers. I don't know if there are better twiddlers to make a swap worthwhile.

I have Audisons in my car and they are terrific. http://www.audison.eu/index.php?page=product&id=38 I don't know how well they would be driven by stock unit, though, as mine are driven by Alpine 100wx4 additional amp (through Audison Bit One interface used to normalize the OEM output).

While doing anything aftermarket risks Ferrari blaming that for any failures (and then refusing warranty coverage), technically only modifications actually causing the failure would void the warranty. For example, it should be hard for Ferrari to blame the aftermarket stereo for an engine failure.

I won't know unless and until there is a problem, but the dealer knew the car was getting these upgrades, as they work with the same shop and facilitated the modification process by arranging for the car to be taken off the dealer's premises for the work to be done. I would hope Ferrari SpA would be kind if any issues arise, as Audison is another Italian company.

I spoke with the audio specialists and it seems there are a few options:

    1) Go with new powerful speakers and wire in a new amp to power them.
    2) Just replace all the existing speakers with new better ones of similar power.

I decided to go with Option 2 as I didn't really want to mess around too much with the electrics and possibly cause concern for warranty issue.

    - 2 x Morel 120W Tempo 6 - 2 way speakers for the front
    - 2 x Morel 130W MT-23 Tweeters
    - 2 x Morel (not sure the specs) for the back.

I have attached some pics to compare the existing front Ferrari speakers with the Tempo 6. I held the Ferrari ones and they felt like cheap plastic! The audio guy said it costs £2-£3 to make those speakers!!

I am giving my car in on Tuesday to get it sorted. Lets hope just the change in speakers will give a much better quality of sound!

Wow! What a difference in the way they are constructed! I just did a quick look at specs and the rated sensitivity of the Tempos is 90db, whilst that of the Audisons is 91db. It's not clear to me if both specs are measured the same way, but assuming they are, I would think they would behave similarly if driven by the stock electronics, with a slight advantage in efficiency to the Audisons. Please post your experience after they get installed, as I'm guessing there are many who like you, would be interested in a speaker swap without any addition of amplification or other electronics.

Thanks for the pictures and update. The Ferrari speakers look like cheap junk.

I am sure you will have a huge and satisfactory improvement in sound quality without the need for supplementary ampliication

The sound of speakers has never been a major concern for Ferrari it seems....

Where are you having it done in it London?

Interested in the installer in UK and interested in your opinion of the result

If a good outcome can be achieved without the additional amp I am more interested in that

And if it's not asking too much, part numbers for each :)

Remember there are 9 speakers in total if you look at my previous posts

I can understand replacing the central dashboard one might be either unnecessary or too mic work

But the rears require two each side for a total of 4 speakers in the rear

I upgraded my system nearly two years ago - having a DSP and Amp installed and upgraded the front speakers & tweeters , the rears were left as original. It was professionally fitted in Northamptonshire and it took them over a week- the main difficulty was running the cables from the front to the back for the amp.

Prior to carrying out the work I spoke with the dealership and they said that it did not affect the warranty on the rest of the car. Obviously the mods voided the warranty on the rest of the audio system.

Prior to the upgrade, the sound coming out of the system was unemotional and uninvolving.
    Now it rocks.

The company is called Auto Audio in Park Royal, they said they will try and do it on the same day.. I am not bothering with the tiny speakers on the top of the dashboard. I didn't know there were 4 x speakers in the back. Will find out all by tom evening when I get my car back.. cheers

That's a Joke.. getting my car back in 8 hours, so we'll see how much better the Morel speakers sound. Apparently in the rear they might see if they can fit 1 x 4" (tweeter & woofer combo) instead of the separate woofer & tweeter..
