Hi Everyone! Just wanted to touch base and introduce myself. I am the proud new owner of a 1987 Testarossa Spyder. I have been a "lurker" for awhile now but since I am now an actual owner I wanted to say hello. Seems like a really great group of people here who are extremely knowledgeable and willing to share their experiences. Looking forward to learning as much as I can about these fantastic cars from all of you! I'm sure I will have lots of questions in the future! My story? Well I grew up watching Magnum race around Hawaii (like many of you I imagine?) and was "hooked" then came the Testarossa in Miami Vice and I was "done"!Anyway finally bought my first Ferrari awhile back. I feel really fortunate to have found a convertible conversion! After driving a friend's TR about 6-8 months ago I knew I had to have one someday. I started trying to learn as much as I could about these cars from this message board and from my friend and the internet. Well my "someday" finally arrived and I was lucky to hear of a TR Spyder that was going to be available and contacted the broker. It turned out to be an 1987 Rossa Corsa with about 32K miles and the tan seats, brown dash and chocolate brown carpet combination. I have since learned from different people that there are probably less than 10 of these in the world. Not sure about that, but it's a kick to drive on a beautiful day, I know that! From the pictures it seemed to be in pretty good condition with normal wear and tear issues. The top seemed to be in great shape minus a cut in the side that had been repaired. After a lot of discusion with my TR friend and seeing the car in person and driving it I decided to make the leap! I purchased the car after the successful completion of a PPI and had it taken for the Major Service, new clutch and flywheel, new alternator, new Michelin Pilots, new brake pads, and an assortment of other items. Also included a full interior and exterior detail. Needless to say I am thrilled with the "finished" product. The rest is history I guess and after some restless nights, she is in my garage! The Fall weather has been incredible and perfect for enjoying the open air! I had forgotten how much fun driving could be and for those of you that don't know, Austin has some incredible hill country roads that are like heaven for a Ferrari I guess? i know there will be some bumps in the road but I'm looking forward to a long and happy relationship with this Ferrari ! I am just so happy and thrilled to have her! Probably feeling like many of you did with your first Ferrari I would guess. Take care everyone and have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
congrats, but where are the pics? You have to remember that we love pics and lots of them! Otherwise, this thread is useless! Holy crap, just realized this was posts 666 for me, yikes!
Congratulations on the new car! I've seen it and have ridden it and it is awesome!!!! I'm holding off from posting the first pic, that should be your priviledge. Upload a pic with the top up and one with the top down. The car looks fantastic either way.
btw - irrespective of the year or mods, you have a TR and that is all that matters! Remember, it was voted the most famous fcar by top gear! I could have bought various models but settled on the TR for all the reasons we TR lovers know.
Sorry if there was any confusion but the TR is owned by txav8r, I've just a photographer that will have some pics of it soon.
Just wanted to say Thank You for the warm welcome! Wish I had better pictures! I will work on getting more. Guess that I have spent more time enjoying the driving up to this point! Hope you like 'em!! Oh yeah, I fly B737s. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great looking car, but how about a pic without the top? I think it looks much better without the top, just my opinion. I also have an 87 TR and have to say what strikes me about the car is not the top, but the wheels! They look fantastic. Do you know who makes them and from whom they were purchased? Also, are they 18's?
Looks like a very nice conversion. The top looks good - it doesn't look like someone tried to put a shoe on a rooster. Enjoy it! CC
Congratulations! Absolutely beautiful car. Am I the only one that thinks of that stand-up video game OutRun with the convertible Red Testarossa? May you enjoy many miles of pleasure with your gorgeous RedHead! Frank
Thanks for the kind words! More pictures are coming and I will get plenty topless, I promise! The conversion was done in 1990 by Coach Builders in Florida. It seems to be a fairly starightforward design without alot pieces to it. They did have to do an extensive amount of extra bracing underneath the car to maintain the structural integrity. although this did not seem to cause any issues during the Major Service. The wheels are 18" 3 piece Speedlines (I believe?) and they are mounted on new Michelin Pilots. I really like the wheels as well. I think he made a great choice on the wheels.
Frank, I always think of the video game in the large arcades where you can choose a model F-car and if you choose the TR, it turns out to be a convertible. Thanks for the nice compliment on the car! Have a great Turkey Day.
CarguyJohn, I was told that Coach Builders did 4 TR conversions, and this was number 4 in the series and the only one in Rossa Corsa. Please don't place any wagers with more than one zero in it based on what I just told you ok?
Welcome and congrats.. Enjoy her and drive in good health my friend. You will soone find that this forum is great and the support is fantastic. Great people on here. Be well and I really like the rims. Are you sure they are speed lines. Tey look more like the Compomotive version of the speedline. Doesn't matter.. she looks great. Robbie
Dear Ferraristi, Congrats ! Welcome to the board. A big " Freeze....Miami Vice " to you. I believe the wheels are speedlines. I believe 5 bolts under center cover...like old BBS RS's Let's see a pix with the top down. Oh, and while were at it a hot tall thin blonde in the passenger seat. Yeah....you know I'm thinking it.....with her top down Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
