is this worth the extra $$$$
I have it. Short answer is YES. Long answer is if you listen to music sure...blah blah blah something about listening to the engine noise while driving your Ferrari 5 miles round-trip from the grocery store...blah blah Just get it.
I had the HiFi in my 458 but the standard in my 488 and to be frank, the standard sounds fine to me. I am not an audiophile, but for regular music, it sounds just fine.
I am a designer, manufacturer of ultra high end home audio components and when driving I rarely listen to music. Want to enjoy the engine sounds and focus on the driving experience. Spending more on an "upgraded" audio system in a car is something I never do.
The upgrade on the 488 is more substantial than the upgrade was for the 458. It's the best factory sound system for a Ferrari I've heard ..
But to WHAT standard does that comply ... and at what cost ? The NAV system should have been "substantial upgraded" but is still marginal ... THAT should have been top-of-the-bill by now imo ....
I have done the upgrade on the 360, 430, and 458 - both spider and coupe. Not saying the systems were great but I am happy I did it in each case. The 458 Italia upgrade was the best. The spider is weak but works way better than standard. I cannot comment on 488. Best
It is worth it. There is a significant difference between the regular and HIFI. I listened to them both, and made the decision the check that box. I am doing my best to keep my build under 350k, but options have gotten crazy expensive. I do love music though so that sways my opinion. I hope this helps!
Anything that can muffle the epic and glorious orchestra of a Ferrari V8 is a waste of money. If owners are musically inclined, I'd recommend buying the best home-cinema stereo money can buy. On the road though, who cares about music other than the one that pours out of your exhaust?! I have the JBL sound system on my 458. Turned it up once for 5 seconds, to see if it worked. It does. That's enough. Kind regards, Nuno.
If you drive in "auto" then get the best sound system as you can. If you drive in manual and shift near the rev limiter then sound system is not required -
As there will undoubtedly be times when the thrill of the engine sound isn't present (such as in heavy traffic or when on a highway at a steady speed), the upgraded sound system is certainly worth it. I took the upgrade for my 458 Spider and have not regretted it for a second. The quality is great! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
If you want to retain a wider selection of buyers when you want to sell get it .I have the standard in my 488 and hate it.Im putting in a aftermarket system in .but would have been satisfied with the upgrade .You can't get it upgraded after the fact as Ferrari only does it pre order .good luck
Like most options in most cars, the money you pay for them isn't recovered when you sell your car, but the "nice to have" ones usually help sell your car faster over other cars that are more lightly optioned. It seems Ferrari has a number of buyers who order very lightly optioned cars in the early stages of a new model's introduction because they know they will flip the car in a few months and want to minimize their capital outlay. To me, when looking for a used 458, the JBL stereo was not a "must," but along with the other options on the car, made it stand out against a lot of other cars that seemed to stay on the market unsold for a long time. Granted, some of the other cars had odd color combinations, but a surprising number looked like they were ordered without the initial buyer being told optional extras even existed. While it is true a number of buyers don't want useless options that add undesired weight, most buyers do want some of the more popular ones, like the LED steering wheel and front end lifter. As another pointed out, there will be times you are sitting in traffic and wish the stereo was decent, even if it's off most of the time.
I agree. I mean, I still think it's a waste of money and not actually worth it, but that's my personal point of view. From a music/sound/technical point of view, I agree the JBL premium sound system is very, very good. Huge difference and upgrade from standard. It's a quality system, no doubt about it. Not a ripoff. You pay top dollar, but you end up with a top dollar sound system, imho. Kind regards, Nuno.
Hi Nuno - Thanks for your comment. I suppose the reality is that most of the options are (if not rip-offs) over-priced, but it's a seller's market! I was glad to hear that someone else agrees with me about the quality of the JBL premium sound system. Is it worth it? As you say, that's a personal issue. For me, the answer is 10000% yes. Kind regards and hoping that your Xmas was a merry one Michael Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
From memory, whilst in the music playback screen hold down the "menu/setup" button until the tone options show up. It might be one of the other buttons you have to hold down.
