    Is this a 308 Conversion?

To my understanding the 288's were only offered in red, with the exception of the *one* yellow car which is the prototype model. That's the model which bumps to 273 instead of 272 examples made. Also, lack of daytona style seats, which would also be black with red inserts.

Even if it is a conversion, it still looks great.

It does look great. That is my dream car, a black 288 GTO. From the back, it looks real (transaxle). And single lug GTO wheels make it appear to be authentic. Those are not reproductions.

I knew the 360 had the sunroof option, but not the CS.

BEAUTIFUL GTO! (even if it is a conversion)

If he can get that car, the black F40, black F50 and ZFFCW56A430134282 together, THAT would be a photograph!

I second that! I'm surprised more people haven't responded to this thread - the car is amazing!

Good point - I always thought they were all red except for the yellow prototype that was for sale on QV for a long time while back.

Then again, there was a silver 288GTO that was posted here that (I think) went to a collector in Mexico whose entire Ferrari collection is silver. I'd definitely like to know more about this black 288.

It could just be a crashed car that someone put back together, and in the process decided to paint black. Some people would rather be unique than have something everyone else has. The car can always be repainted red if the next buyer wants to. I think the fact that the 288 GTO is over two decades old and this is the first time we are seeing a black one proves that this isn't an original.

    My 2 shiny ones.

Never seen one in Black, thought they only came in Red.

If they didn't look so much like a 308, I might put it on my serious wishlist.

Looks good! Although I prefer red because I really like the lines on the GTO. I'm not surprised that there's a black one. I wouldn't be if there's a silver or blue one either. Probably 99% of F-chat has seen the non-red F40s.

i had the pleasure to drive a 288 GTO some weeks before. the whole black car looks like a real GTO. all rebodied 308 dont have the longer wheelbase and the interior of the GTO.
only the seats look a bit odd.
as for all the other details - center lck rims, real scuderia shields, interior details...i would say thats a real 288 repainted .

Those center lock wheels could easily be 5-lug wheels with a cover over the lugs (like a hub cap) and the inside is wrong (look at the pedals).

It's a conversion, but a very nice one.

the rims look quite right and what´s wrong inside ?
the seats are not original, but what else seems wrong ?

i think the wheelbase looks correct. it would be really hard to fit a 308 to that size.

I have the 5 lug GTO style wheels with the covers on my 328. Those are real. Can't comment on the inside.

That does not look right to me.

    The rims don't look correct.

And there is usually a vent on the bottom side panel that I am not seeing in those pics.

Well, now i am thinking it is real. The door handle is correct for a 288 & not a 308. I can see the bottom side vent upon closer inspection. The wheels don't usually have the yellow ferrari symbols, but that could have been added.

It also has the fuel filler on the back fender. I am going with real, just re-painted (for what it is worth). :)

Here is Armen's red one for comparison :
