So I was having an issue that one of my lights would sometimes not turn on. I would have to turn it on and off a few times before it came on. I decided to buy a used replacement ballast. I'm just in the middle of replacing it and when I remove the old one the rubber boot that is there to prevent moisture from getting in comes off with the old one but I don't know how to transfer to the new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Clearly the boot went on before the ends, the plastic end can't be opened?

It looks like there is some mastic type sealant product at the entrance point for the wire into the boot. Slowly cut it away, loosen the wire, and see if you can make an opening large enough at the entry point for the wire and connector and then pull it out. After that, if successful, put in new wire and terminal and reseal with something like through the roof leak sealer clear caulk. It is waterproof.

The old cable looks longer than that on the replacement ballast - unless it's an optical illusion?

I'm afraid that to swap the boots it will be a case of opening the ballast and soldering the old cable to the new ballast. Some ballasts are full of a sealing gel, if so it will not be straight-forward .
