I was doing my first yearly maintenance on my 360 and discovered a minute hole in the oil suction fan screen. I decided to take the plunge and replace the part, even though I thought it was probably going to be expensive. Maybe it would cost $100. To my amazement, the part costs $280 at Ricambi. Shopping around, I found I could not find a better price in the US. However, I did find a much better price at Eurospares in the UK. The Eurospares price is 91.72 pounds. It cost 36.50 pounds to ship across the pond. So, the total outlay was 128.22 Pounds, which comes to $197.05 at today's exchange rate. Even with shipping across the ocean, it still costs over $80 less to buy the part overseas. Granted, I had to wait 3 weeks to get the part, but for $80 it's worth the wait.

P.S. The oil suction fan comes with the hugely expensive O-rings already installed, so there is no need to order them separately.

Part prices here in the states are an absolute joke on fcars. I got a quote from a sponsor the other day for a reprogram just to clear out the cel for no cats on a 360. This has no performance boost, there was no dyno time or other costly time and research to develop anything, just change the O2 sensor sensitivity to clear out a stupid light

    Cost - $1000

    Insulting...

the carbon fiber fuel inlet lid costs approx. 300 euros here in Europe meanwhile in US it's over 1000USD...carbon fiber shields around 600 euros vs 1400 USD there...

same as for the cars...you have much much higher prices than here

This shouldn't be terribly surprising; its not like we are fixing a Jeep Wrangler which has parts shared with hundreds of other models in different model years with millions of units sold including millions more being used I industrial vehicles, all of which are being serviced regularly due to lots of driving...

we are driving exotic sports cars with models produced in small numbers of expensive, high performance components that weren't designed to be affordable... they were designed to be fast!

insulting? no. but does it get annoying? yes.

you could always consider a business opportunity of making replacement parts much cheaper if you like? I'd go in on that :)

Com'on Rotary. Let's be sensible. While the price for the tune may not have included dyno time or gotten you a performance boost - there are certainly factors you are tossing to the side. Like research & development (yes, someone still had to look into & study the systems to see how this could be achieved), How about hardware cost? How about HR cost? How about advertizing? How about that little something called overhead?

Like the gent below said... You can always try to come up with a solution yourself. All you need is staff, location, tools, know-how, a reputation, suppliers, communication, employee benefits, permits, licenses, etc. $1000 seems pretty fair now.

My point was not so much that the parts are expensive, though they are, but the same part is nearly double here versus what it costs in the UK. Why should that be?

I am an engineer and have worked in the automotive industry for nearly 30 years. I am well aware of engineering costs, manufacturing costs, costs of scale, etc. However, a 1 inch O-ring should not cost $36, unless it is on the space shuttle. If this is a custom part, my reaction as a (cost conscious) engineer would be, "is there a standard, off the shelf part that would perform the same function for less money?". Perhaps these O-rings really are made of poly-razmataz and are not standard O-rings. However, I have my doubts.

...when you get into the OEM type stuff (ie Bosch) it's even more ridiculous, some parts have a 500% markup because it comes in a Ferrari box!

There are a lot of auto mfg who have disproportionately expensive parts. Subaru comes to mind. I'd rather have a Ferrari.

Years ago I had a Porsche 914. The local race guy ran a shop and had a crossover catalog for parts common to VW and Porsche. Big difference there too.

In North America, there is probably a bit of a snotty associated with Ferrari, so higher prices keep the rifraf away.

If you make a seal, gasket, or other aftermarket item and DO NOT put a Ferrari logo on it then now are you breaking international law? Tons of companies offer aftermarket parts. The PROBLEM is that you will make so few that you'll need to charge a fortune to break even..... See what I did there?
You could open a business making aftermarket auto parts, don't indicate they are exclusively, just make parts and inform people they "may fit your vehicle". Just make sure there are no proprietary parts or special patents.

I think you are missing the point.

The OP is talking about the price difference: buying it in the US vs buying it overseas and having it shipped here for the exact same part. Not about making aftermarket parts or copying parts.

I have found that you can usually find a matching part number from the manufacturer and use that to locate the part without the Ferrari box for a fraction of the Ferrari cost. Bosch ignition coils for example and the well known alarm horn.

Ferrari North America has a standard mark up for all parts shipped outside of the EU. Complain to F-NA and you may see a reduction..and pigs will fly!

    Do your research.
Many aftermarket parts are cheaper and better than OEM.

If a very small number of parts are needed, AND you need to ship them overseas... wouldnt you imagine they'd inflate the cost to match shipping?

I would expect to pay more when there arent millions of parts and/or they are made in another company. Its not like a honda gasket where they send 1,000,000 from Japan at a time; its a small number of parts likely being shipped in small numbers by small carriers compared to freight containers.

OK, I expect a cam to cost a fortune, but how about something like a thermostat for my 360. It looks just like something out of a Chevy or a Ford and does exactly the same job.

Why should it cost $373 (plus shipping) from Eurospares?

I paid $2,500 for OEM Ferrari 4-pt seatbelt harnesses, $7,000 for headlamp units...I'm sure Chevy ones would only cost a few hundred at best.

Welcome to Ferrari ownership people, and if you don't like the numbers well, no one is forcing you into it to begin with.

If we owners start sharing information on lower priced parts, alternatives that work, and any cross references we learn about (seems like oil and air filters are not special) then prices may drop but for sure we will save.

Other cars I own have owner chat sites that share this info.
Recently I posted a question on this board about any alternative filters for my 430 and I was flamed for trying to save......or that I might risk my Ferrari......oil, filter changes, etc. are not rocket surgery.

For most of us our Fcars are not our DDs. Taking time and researching and locating parts can be part of the fun of owning an Fcar.
