I was reading on this site, but forgot which forum or thread, that Ferraris are more high maintanance than say, Porsches or other sports cars. Me, not yet an owner, wouldn't have a clue as to why. So, is this true?

    Thanks,
    JJ

Most cars need lots of maintenance. Cars that are not used regularly need severe maintenance schedules to keep seals from drying and rotting. Ferraris are higher maintenance because they are rarely driven and/or some owners dread spending the required $5000 for regular (time based-not mileage based) maintenance. Older Ferraris have older parts that are made of rubber and leather which doesn't last without adequate refurbishing and by nature needs to be replaced (especially rubber) in CA (whose ozone levels take a big toll on rubber parts). Porsches are lower maintenance? Not really if you follow factory recommendations. I would change the oil and coolants and brake fluids every 3000 miles or 2 years for the 911's. That's normal for all cars you care about and want to last 200000 miles without needing major engine work.

Ferraris are higher maintenance by design, whether you drive them or not.

As Martin posted, this has been discussed a lot, usually in regard to the timing belt service interval. Fluid changes are probably standard across most cars.

Yes, this is your basic, standard maintanence for almost all cars.
I was just thinking, why isn't this good for Ferraris?

The infrequent use argument make sense to a point. I guess if any car was driven infrequently, that argument would apply there as well. (?)

    Cheers,
    JJ
