for those of you with 911 experience, would you buy a well kept high milage (20k miles a year, mostly highway)996 coupe that is out of warranty.... are the newer 911 as bullet proof as the old ones... this would be a daily driver

research the RMS situation especially for cars out of warranty. Why not a late 993?

Not unless I had a really good 3-4 year extended warranty to cover me.

Early 996's had a lot of problems.....many of which manifested themselves in the engines and transaxles. These engines, as you may already know, are not like 993 and earlier engines that can be repaired and disassembled by the individual cylinders.....etc......

Had my early 996 (Sept '98 production) for 5 years. Put 75000 very hard miles on it and changed the oil a total of 3 times that I can remember. Never had a problem. Come to think of it, you're not buying my old car, are you?:D

A 996 driven correctly can (and do) last as much as 250,000 miles. A 996 driven incorrectly can be a write off at 40,000 miles.

So tell us. What is the right way. I have a 2002 TT Tip. It is very easy to drive. See the pedal on the right? Push it until fear overwhlems you. Then push the pedal on the left. What am I doing wrong?

    scycle2020.....

Well.....I wouldn't buy one unless it was a 2001 or newer, or if the owner and a PPI could show me that their were "NO" problems with syncros or the engine.

PCNA replaced "A LOT" of 996 engines in the 99 and 00 cars, and denied "A LOT" of warranty claims on transaxles..........you've probably gone to www.rennlist.com for advice but my service contacts at the Porsche dealers I know very well have also verified this for me.

    Just my .02 Euros......
