I have a very high pitched and quiet whistling noise coming from (or behind) the fuel gauge in my car - it's only just audible.

    Any ideas?

forgot to mention.... the noise is there with the ignition turned on to the 1st position without the engine started, and also when the engine is running. I'm not too worried about it as I probably wouldn't hear it if I was 10 years older, but I don't remember hearing it before.

Try the easy things first, such as turning off the stereo and A/C or heat. If that doesn't isolate the noise, then start pulling fuses one by one until the noise disappears. Last fuse pulled will be your best clue!

    No, not really.

The noise is there when ignition is at the 1st position and when the engine is running - all the time. It's not a pump noise, it is a electronic sounding very high pitched noise, almost like the noise a camera makes when the flash is recharging, maybe not quite that high pitched, but not far off.

    Maybe I've got tinitus!

I'm just going to ignore it as I'm driving accross France tomorrow!

During your trip, just put on a CD of Debussy or Saint Sains, drive, and enjoy!
