If you don't have a phone line and cable tv, can you still get high speed internet? Not including installing a T1 line in your house?

There are some companies that offer high speed sattelite service.

The barrier here is that all the services that offer satellite offer download only. You use the telephone for upload.

Sign up for WIRELESS high speed and then spend all your time at free wi-fi spots.

Or get Verizon national wireless high speed.

I assume you cannot get DSL or cable service out that far?

If so, you're limited to sattelite basically. Sattelite is no longer download-only, it is now fully bi-directional.

HOWEVER, the speed is kind of bad (500kbit) and the real kicker, your downloads are restricted. That's right you get to pull in like 400MB per month only. (then it throttles you back to like 50kbit/second.) Latency is also very veru high (400ms+ because of geosyncronous orbits.)

Sattelite is not comprable to real broadband, but it is much much better than dialup.

Also see if you are in range for 144kbit IDSL, that is what I have at my Healdsburg place.

It would help if you clarified whether it's possible to get cable tv at your house. Having a phone line is not a requirement for having cable-internet.
