Hi Moretti, looks like 'your' section of this road has struck again in the wet. Unfortunately this guy and his little daughter weren't as lucky as you... both dead, I'm sorry to say. Might get some action going though, local Fed member is finally taking notice and they're talking 'study to ascertain if drivers are aquaplaning off this section of the road'.

saw it on the news tonight,

Sad to see another 2 people die and shows how lucky I was , either that or how thick my skull WAS !!

They're blaming the paint this time....In my case it was a pothole and lump

from the footage on TV it looked to be in the SAME spot

someone will pay for this carnage as that is the third crash I've heard of since mine, all in the same spot and all died.

It puts the willies up me whenever I go out in the wet now plus I'm not a very good driver :(

Curious to the exact location. I was in Gympie a few years ago seconded to the Main Roads office and know the highway around there pretty well.

I recall near Skyring Creek south of Gympe was a bad spot. There were plenty of others, though. There have been too many crashes (& fatalities) around Gympie.

In fact, too much of the Bruce Highway north to Cairns has design deficiencies. Things are improving slowly.

I think the local news tonight said something like 60 major incidents in that spot over the last 10 years...

Thankful John that you & family are OK.

I did see the photos of your car earlier in a separate thread and did not know the crash location.

Over here in WA in the south there is rarely much rain. One tends to forget the effects of heavy rain.

I was in north Queensland for a few years and often the main highway would close after tropical storms. A spot where a few cars would aquaplane was Mourilyan, near Innisfail. Just on the southern entry to the township where there is a rail crossing.

Reminds me that it was only a few years ago that Townsville received 540mm of rain in 24 hours. Serious rain!

umm, several head fractures, dislocated arm with all muscles and tendons severed, broken breastbone (same as for open heart surgery) scalp ripped off and knee ligament damage meant I didn't escape scott free...the family on the other hand literally climbed out through the windscreen without a scratch.

The same has not happened for >300 people on that stretch of road so I do consider myself lucky to be alive but did have 6 months of incredible pain which is a dim dark memory now thank heavens.

The car although written off was actually salvagable and in hindsight I wished I had tried to get all new panels and a new front right suspension as the rest of the car was undamaged.

I put this down to the fact these older Ferraris had a full chassis which gave it incredible strength and also the fact that there is a small tube rollbar built into the roof of the GT4 which took a lot of the force from the roll.

There is a creekbed just before the embankment I hit which rolled the car and I think if a car goes into that section it would be more dangerous but hard to say especially when the car dug into the embankment and this catapulted the car into the air (12' the guy behind said) and came down on the drivers A pillar, hence all the damage to the git behind the wheel.
