I got one of the "slick shift" gates made by Hill Engineering from Daniel at Ricambi. As usual, Daniel is great to deal with, and their shipping is quick and service fantastic. Regarding the shift gate, I like the concept, though I don't expect a *major* difference. I wanted the slight reverse offset it has built in, since when my forks tend to get misaligned slightly, they're usually in that direction.

The part appears to be good quality, but the only thing I don't like about it is that its finish doesn't at all match the original chrome gate. It could come close if it had been highly polished aluminum, even if it wasn't chromed, but it isn't.

So... anyone have a source they like for chroming that I could send it to? Otherwise I'm going to have it polished.

Daniel, you might talk to Phil about upgrading the finish when it's designed for 308/328 cars...

get a biker magazine and check out the back ads...

(BTW, I don't understand how the Hill slick shift gate effects wear on the shift pauls.)

Not that it effects wear, but provides more side "give" when the wear occurs. The 308 stock shift slot for REVERSE is as straight as any of the others. The slick shift gate, like the more modern Ferrari shift gates (see the photo of a stock 348 below), leave more "slop" area to the left, instead of having it straight up... and that IS the way it wants to go if you try shifting without the gate in place (at least on mine).

It's occured to me that highly polished aluminum looks very much like chrome -- I've got a Team Voodoo shift knob that certainly does. I'm going see about polishing down the brush finish into a smooth reflective finish... I know I could probably have that done somewhere locally (wheel repair place?) but maybe I can do it myself.
