I’ve been heavily researching the benefits of two piece wheel bolts, however there seems to be no manufacturer who makes the two piece titanium bolts anymore in the USA or Europe, only Asia.

The hill engineering bolts are one piece, but of unquestionable quality. Although the benefits of two piece are strong.

My primary interest is to protect the paint inside the lug wells of the wheels and it seems two piece does it better.

    What are your guys thoughts?

Got mine from Wisdom Titanium based on recommendations from, this forum. $299 shipped for black Titanium.

I think many places manufacture in China that you think may not. They listed the same specs as others if not better.

One piece and looked very very nice. Have had no issues with them and when I take them the Ferrari Dealers they all think they are the Ferrari ones. From their website

    "titanium Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V)
Tensile Strength: 900~1050Mpa ( 130,000 – 152,000 psi ), 45% lighter than your current stainless steel ones. All the bolts are hot forged head with rolled threads."

FWIW, if the choice is two-piece Allen vs. one-piece Torx, I’d take the Torx (Hill Engineering). They resist cam-out much better. I’ve rounded many Allen screws, but never a Torx.

    Some quotes from various sources:

“A key advantage of the Torx system is that is allows higher torque transmission than other drive systems enabling fastenings to be tighter and therefore more secure. The straight sides of the Torx six sided star shaped socket helps prevent camout.”

“The drive angle is the primary driving force behind why a Torx bolt is able to handle more torque before stripping. A hex bolt relies on a 60 degree angle while the Torx bit relies on a 15 degree angle.

The significantly smaller drive angle forms a much tighter tolerance, which better distributes the concentration of force to all points and therefore allows for much higher torque values before rounding out.”

To me, potential damage to the lug seat is a minimal risk. Standard (steel) lug bolts are one-piece. If Hill thought a two-piece design was necessary, theirs would be two-piece. That they went with Torx is significant.

I did end up buying the Hill Engineering one piece many months ago. And I ended up overtorquing two of the bolts requiring repair of the hub and replacement of two bolts. The Hill bolts are of supreme quality and no issues with scratching the paint of the wheel with the one piece.

I’d advise everyone to go with Hill.

Why a discussion on cam out? Are people over torquing the fasteners? Abuse potential goes steel, Ti, aluminum. Each work and each have their own characteristics.
