Last year I bought a 308 GTS in Switzerland and imported to the Netherlands, where I live. According to the papers of the car this 308 is an North-American version of 1978 carburator equipped. The car is painted in red/black boxer-scheme (from factory) the leather interior is coloured in so called "caramel." Further more the car is equipped with air-conditioning and 14" 5-spoke original wheels with Michelin tires. Those wheels are rather special because they are polished with black inside. The car was registered in Switzerland on October 1989, and came orginally from the States. Does anybody know this car or its history/former owners?. The VIN-number of the car is F106AS-24877 Thanks! Don't know anything about this car, but like the look, with the black below the belt. Interesting. My '78 GTS is 23329, a bit older than your car. Love the sound of the old carbed cars. Hope you are driving it and enjoying it. You'll see some differences on my car, from yours. My grills on the fenders were painted red, not black. PO, don't know why, whether that was original or not. He also changed the wheels to 16", which is a nice mod (bigger, wider tires), and added the fender shields. I changed the dual distributor ignition over to an Electromotive distributorless system. Nice improvement in the driveability of the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for your response. Yes, we are driving the car for a few weeks now, because after 1,5 years of technical restoration the car is now allmost ready to drive. The car was put aside for more than 6 years when I bought it. So, there was a lot of work to do. We totally rebuilt the suspension with new bushings, had the shock absorbers rebuild (original Koni) rebuild the cilinderheads, rebuild the brake calipers and a lot more. Now I need to fine-tune it. Technically the car is allmost ready except for some small details. Now the car needs some cosmetic attention. At this time winter is coming faster than I would like so driving is only possible next year. Driving the car is an absolute joy and to hear the engine even more because of the carburettors. The Boxer-scheme is original and the fender-grills are painted black as on later model-cars,after 1978. In 1978 they were the same color as the body. The wheels are now 16" with Pirelli P7 tyres like you could order when the car was new. P.S. like the looks of your car, looks very good
Whoa, hold your horses! OF COURSE the Factory "made" the black lower paint scheme, it's called "Boxer Trim" to tie the later smaller 308GTB to it's Big Brother, the carbed BB512! on the Boxer it was a "Delete" option to get the car all one color instead, on the 308GTB it was an "add" option to paint the lower black. Two of my three 1976-1977 cars have it. The fender vents are body colored on North American cars unitl the hood grill was added (1980?) then they are black anodized on all three pieces...pretty common to see cars "updated" according to personal taste. There is realy two different louvers, black anodized, or paintable. If you have black painted it's been changed. The black treatment of the mags was by one particular West Coast Dealer, a search here should find the name, I prefer them factory all silver. 16" rims is a nice upgrade, (1983?) expensive, if real Ferrari rims! HTH!
