I just chased down an arse hole in a work truck (company name not included to protect the guilty) here in the NOVA area today.
The short version was that a work truck slid at a light into a car two lanes to my left smashing the woman's left rear of her mini-suv, and then ran over a sign and turned left and kept going. NO ONE DID ANYTHING TO HELP so I yelled to the woman to chase him but she was a mess.
I cut in front of them and chased the guy down by following his snow tracks and he had turned off of the road he had made the left-hander onto but I got his arse!

I called 911 while enroute and reported the plates and then called the company to report him. They went off and I went back to check on the woman. By the time I got there she had pulled off to the side of the road (After being verbally assaulted about 10 times according to her for not moving more quickly) and after I was sure she was ok, the Fairfax County Police showed and requested from the company that the vehicle return to the scene. The "non-english" speaking guy said he didn't know he had hit anything....uh, yeah WTF ever.

I am just happy I nailed the SOB, and glad I could help the lady. The cop was cool as could be, and was so happy I chased the guy down...to all of my new friends who serve in the various police forces, you guys are moving up on my "cool" list. Growing up I always thought you were the enemy :)

I was so pissed no one else did anything to help, but Almost Retired told me this is par for the course. Any cops out there have a take?

Have a great day, and grin with me that the guy was charged with Hit and Run!!! (Idiot).

Man that is awesome- I am glad the lady was OK (it seems?). But I am also very happy these people were hunted down and brought to justice. What happened to the guy?

Well, as of the moment I am sure he is going about his business, but the officer told me that he may need to subpeona me to the hearing depending upon what the company files for their driver...I can't tell you guys how good that made me feel. I was so pissed when the guy drove off I was literally screaming in my car for someone to do something because I was caught behind another car two lanes to her right.

The woman is definitely ok, sorry if I didn't make that clear.

It must be great to be a police officer when you get to nail people like this. I am still on a natural high...

He was charged upon his return to the scene with Hit and Run. The officer dismissed me from the scene after that and it was snowing like crazy so I had to get home in the BMW M3 (Even though it does have Mich Pilot Sport A/S on it :))

P.S. Thanks for the kudos, but all of you guys would have done the same I am sure, just glad I could help a lady out!!!

We often called that a "Gift Wrapped" investigation. Way to go. Sucks you are the only one that helped but you do live pretty close to yankee land!

The driver was probably afraid he'd get fired. Now he's in even bigger trouble.

The only wreck my wife ever had was caused by a hit and run driver in a mid 70's civic. The wreck took off his front bumper. I spent a few weeks looking for that SOB, but never found him. The police said it was no big deal since we had insurance. So my $10k loss is not a problem but a bank robber taking $3k is??? The banks have insurance also. Glad you caught the perp.... I hate that and would have done the same as you for sure!!!

Glad it wasn't a more serious accident.

A 17 year old kid ran from a cop yesterday, killing himself and the lady he hit head on. According to the paper, his "friends" said he probably ran because he was illegal and afraid of get deported.

Possible he is an illegal alien. If so he AND his company are both in trouble...

Way to go Matt. Nice to hear that there are still some out there who choose to stay involved rather than looking the other way. Ever thought of a career in law enforcement?

I did that once. I saw a guy come running out of a 7-11 with a clerk chasing him. He got away from clerk and actually ran off. I followed him in the car and was able to point out to the police where he had hidden in some bushes about six blocks from the store. Found out that he had reached in the cash drawer and taken some bills when the clerk was distracted with it open. Don't know how much he had taken. The police said thanks as did the clerk. I just hate seeing thieves and other blatant law breakers get away with stuff.

It seems I would get caught jaywalking or illegal lane change for using no signal but others can get away with almost anything.

James, I feel the same way, but hey, we help out where we can and I was just in the right place at the right time to help out. I thought about the FBI years ago but the math on thier entry test crushed me :)

I've been an impartial witness to an accident whereby the officer investigating the scene nearly jumped with glee at issuing a ticket to the accident causer right after my statement completely contradicted his. Made his work easy and was glad I stuck around since he says most people don't.
