Chasing a motorcycle---04 crown vic--131mph---WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!
What limits the cars top speed ? Aerodynamics ? Technology (factory installed speed control) ? Tires ?
Has a fuel shutoff--like a govenor from the factory. He ended up boucing off a barrier on a bridge, got up took off again and ended up crashing about 8 miles later. Was flown out in critical condition. All that for a $55 tag violation. He ended up crashing in VA--so they are handling it.
Late one evening around 9pm , he turned off his lights and went into a neighborhood. Wasn't going to fly thru the nieghborhood with kids and people walking around. So I just turned off my siren and stuff and waited at the entrance for a while, he never came out --must of went out a different exit. There are 4 ways in and out of the neighborhood. I wasn't going to be responsible for getting an innocent person hurt. It was just traffic charges anyway.
I always thought they were faster than that. I remember my dad coming home in his squad (30 years) and seeing a sticker reading "please close all windows after 140mph" ( I didn't think they went that fast )
What have most been running from, like normal traffic stops? And when you say caught...what do you mean, like they gave up or what? Interesting, I imagine that gets the adrenaline flowing!
It must be sad to drive your Crown Vic faster than you'll drive your Ferrari. So...I guess you can't speed, being a cop. Man, that would suck. I wonder if this story will unfold (Does the bike end up being stolen? Was it Osama Bin Laden?)
Oh ok. I've heard rumors that the normal crown vic tops out at 130 and the interceptor can get up to 150-160. I couldn't see it happening but never really knew for sure. I found this https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/2006fleetshowroom/2006-CrVicPoliceInt.asp even the spec link doesnt give a top speed reference.
No way will the crown vic--interceptor or not get to that kind of speed. I have an unmarked-no lightbar-less drag. A guy in my unit also has a unmarked and had his top out at 133mph. He said it will go NO faster.
Since VA is handling the incident--Im not sure what happened after I left. Dont know if the bike was stolen, he had a warrant or what. I came back across the bridge into MD and let them do there thing. It is better for them to handle it. reckless driving and fleeing and eluding are FELONIES over there--not here.
The police car may not travel over 130mph - but those radios sure do: 761mph - makes it really hard to outrun when you can call for backup
You should get a rotating beacon and a stick on mustache for your 328. Also, you should make a thread where you post your Police storys, but get the light and the 'stache first before anything else
Let us know when you get assigned a patrol Camaro! I'm currious on the "real" top end on that. If you think criminal, you're going to get caught criminal...think military, Johnny Baker and Frank Poncharello's radios will be out of the chase. That's all I'm going to say about that.
