Anybody know anything about this company (no address or phone number in their website) but I found them in EBAY saying three times the clutch life. Have a '07 Spider with F1 and would be interested if the claim is true.

Also, what is the approx labor charge ($ and hours) to replace a clutch?

Kevlar clutches have not matched up well with F1 Ferraris.

To replace a clutch is 20 labor hours at $125 per hour. I was told that they would only charge me $100 per hour.

I looked into using a Kevlar clutch - seems like they may last a lot longer, but also may have many problems such as a "break in period" and generating a lot of heat.

I spoke to Clutch Masters (you can find their contact information on the internet). They were good to speak with and willing to answer whatever questions I had. They rebuild your clutch using Kevlar.

The main problem that I found was that if I brought any parts to be used in the clutch replacement (Hill Engineering throw out bearing, Kevlar Clutch) then the dealership would not offer the 2 year warranty. Given the cost of $6,200 plus tax, I was not willing to take the chance.

The Kevlar and carbon fiber clutch plates can be (and have been) made to work in a Ferrari F1 system. The fundamental problem is that the surface friction characteristics and various other physical moduli (e.g., coefficient of linear expansion) are quite different from the OEM material. Therefore, the factory software controlling clutch engagement in the TCU is quite inappropriate since it expects to be working with an OEM clutch plate.

That means when one of these non-OEM clutches is simply substituted into the system with no other changes, all kinds of nasty problems result (e.g., overheating flywheel and/or pressure plate, jerky and erratic performance, premature wear of all components, etc.). The only solution is to completely re-program the TCU to precisely match the new & different characteristics of the clutch plate. If you can do that, there may be some advantage. Otherwise, not so much.

search on the lambo forums. covered extensively there

underground racing requires its 1200+ hp to have kevlar clutch units.

i suggest going with a stock clutch unless you get warranty from the installer.

I've searched for an 430 clutch DIY and didn't find much. Clutches are not that difficult. From what I've read, everyone is an expert, apparently the car needs to be hooked up to the computer to have values reset so the computer operates properly.

For F1 clutches, an SD2/3, depending on model, is required for setting clutch point of initial slippage.

8-10 hours is a decent time for a 360. I can't see a 430 being that much more than that unless one of the pros want's to correct me.

Maybe they include the time to air-freight the clutch from Italy....

I will post a breakdown of the bill when I receive it. Another mechanic (Classic Coach in Raliegh, NC) stated 15 hours. I guess the real question is: What have you paid to have a F1 clutch replaced?
