Surely you're joking re the mistaken taxi bit!! I(as everyone there has)have been in them they are a little different to look at and be in, than a 550. You must have parked outside the blind clinic in those respective places.
It was a few years ago, probably because my car's paint condition was a bit dull and it wasn't loud enough back then......
A friendly heads-up for the bros who need MOT's. The government is super unbelievable strict now. Heard of a stock 355 that failed emissions with a reading of 152 against a standard of 150. R tyres are a no go. After-market brakes a no go. Video cameras in MOT centres and government staff there too. I suspect that there will be a lot of Ferraris and Porsches struggling and owners facing big bills to get cars back to stock
Hmm...interesting info. Wonder if this is going to lead to some older cars being put up for sale (with expired MOTs!)?
Exactly. And a 2 tier market. Stock cars that can sail through MOT will actually go up in price. Cars that cannot pass MOT and need 150k to do so will be plentiful with no buyers. Distressed sales galore. Anyone buying a car that needs MOT needs to have eyes wide open
Why are the government being strict on this especially on things like aftermarket brakes? I frequently see big Brembos and AP Racing set-ups even on some of the most mundane cars like Toyota Alphards. For the serious petrolhead this news all seems very sad.
The step up by the Gov't is due to 2 testing centers on the Kowloon side committed major frauds for years and finally caught by ICAC and staff responsible nailed to the wall. Case going to trial next year. Understand the clamp down also include previously a gray area: tinted windows.. The test station U referred to must be Sime Darby ?
I presume IMSS can do their own MOTs? If not I presume they have a reliable place to go when cars go for annual service? I am just assuming when mine reaches that time (pretty soon I guess) then it will get MOT'd as part of its annual service. PAUL
Why is it always the minority that spoil it for everyone else? MOT for cars over 6 years old. IMSS, are they a Gov't approved testing center?? If not, they will need to take cars to either DCH/Sime Darby/Mazda on the Kowloon/NT side.
Paul, you're the last person in HK who has to worry about this. Your car is so pristine, it probably tests better than a brand new car!
Watch out for the Aussies' in that case, they love buying imports(in comparison to locally delivered)cars.
Thanks! Haven't seen my Daytona for about 9 months. I lent it to Ferrari for 3 months for the travelling museum and the itinerary expanded! Miss that car in the cool dry weather - perfect Daytona conditions
The full list of gov designated testing centers is here: http://www.td.gov.hk/filemanager/en/content_1178/cartesting.pdf I've always taken my 550 to Wallace Harper in Ap Lei Chau, without any problems even when it had straight pipes installed and sounded like a NASCAR stock car. Not sure where IMSS's Ap Lei Chau service center takes their customer cars, but Wallace Harper and Zung Fu's testing locations are very close by. My previous old Ferraris all went there too without any problems. However, things may be different now...
Sir Paul's car has original cats just like the 355 that failed. Pristine car with old cats is the same as any car with old cats when hooked up for strict emissions
I thought the filter in a catalystic converter and lambda sensor is a normal service change anyway?....although the book says at 150,000K !!!! Is that an excuse to change my exhaust config to the one recommended by JZND....or just change the cat?
Hey guys, just some questions. Do you take your exotics into China & drive around? Is it necessary to apply for a temp plate 临时证 ? I would imagine it would be epic to take your car for a good expedition deep into the land or is it better to hire/buy a local unit? How about insurance?

Great photos again, IcyJ. I love the 458 in white, it's such a great looking car. On the subject of photos, I have just put together a website of some of my photography, a kind of online portfolio. Hoping I can use it as a vehicle for setting up some photo-shoots and expanding my portfolio. The URL isn't particularly catchy yet, but please feel free to take a look... Rupert Procter Automotive Photography Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
