My girlfriend and I are planning on going to the Hong Kong 7's on Cathay Pacific's deal - it's a flight from LAX or SFO and includes three day passes to the games. We would stay for a week, then venture somewhere else for a week. She was born there, grew up there, but that was almost 20 years ago.

Any recommendations on a place to stay? When we travel, we're extremely frugal, and love to explore, so an expensive hotel with amenities only goes so far, especially since we spend little time there.

Try Hotel Cosmos in Happy Valley, walking distance to the game. Or Empire Hotel in Wanchai, Chartered House in HV also but rates are hi due to the event. Book now. Check out www.hotel.com for deals.

You may want to try the Harbour view hotel in North point, its a five star hotel but very reasonable for HK and its new! I think if you get the right room you have views of both HK and Kowloon harbour which is quite rare. The Cosmopolitan or Cosmo hotels are convenient but extremely expensive when it comes to event or weekends, plus the rooms are terribly small and half of the hotel has frosted windows because your only view would be the cemetery located right behind the hotel.

Empire as pacau mentioned is right in the heart of the bar and night life area of wan chai which is where pretty much most of the 7's spectators go after the matches. They just remodeled too.

One friend stayed at a boutique hotel located on morrison hill road which is right between the cosmo and charter house hotel, called the butterfly, they said it was small but new and perfect for just sleeping and showering.

To be honest HK hotels have gone up significantly over the years, so finding a nice clean hotel for a good price is a bit tricky but they are out there, just have to know where to go. try zuji.com.hk for hotels they seem to have good rates.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

We booked our flights (which also included 7's tickets) and currently narrowing down accommodations. One place had a two bedroom/1bath for one week at 800USD. We'll probably go for that. We'll be in HK on the 21st through the 28th, plan on flying out to Thailand or someplace nearby (haven't decided yet) then fly back out of HK on the 2nd.

Jon & pacacu - thanks again for all the tips. We ended up going with the Ramada on Des Voeux Road West. It was cheap, not too far off the beaten path, on HK Island, and yes... very cheap. The main selling point were the reviews stating they had larger beds. We aren't large people by any means, but other places we looked at said there was no room for luggage in rooms.

We'll be there for 7 days, three of which will be tied up in the games. But if either are around in a particular area and we're in the neighborhood, we can always drop by.

We are both track addicts/car enthusiasts, and this will be difficult... not driving for two weeks!

Just relax and enjoy. Weather is perfect, not warm nor cold.
U will see many exotics here from Ghost to GTR/456. Hang around central, soho area at nite and u are almost back home again.
