Regarding the stability of the Viper, or lack thereof, I don't recall it being unstable in yaw or roll. It is designed with relaxed static stability, Cg aft of Cl, which makes it wickedly responsive in pitch, and does require constant "management" by the FLCS.

I was a poli sci major, so I only flew the thing. I didn't design it. So I may be really wrong.

I haven't looked, but am almost certain somebody's already done it!

    +1

Todays quadcopters in particular are stunning pieces of kit IMO.

I see no reason why the Tower Hobbies computer can't control a "real" plane either.... (?)

    Cheers,

With triple redundant flight controls if you have a problem, you shut off the dampers. Reason for that is what happens if one of the two remaining ones fail and she chooses the bad one? So you landed dampers off. With quad redundancy, you still have three voting, so not an issue.

Obviously, in the F-16, a flight computer off landing was not possible.

There were gyros/flight stabilizers 5 years ago, but they've come a long way since then. I asked the question on his video, curious also.

I've flown a couple planes with gyros (my Corsair has one on it's rudder only to calm down the tail wagging with cross winds) but my flying wings don't have one.
