Nobody up this morning? Ferraris are looking strong through session 1, but session 2 is usually the true indicator of 1-lap speed. I'd bet on Massa and Schumaker, nonetheless.
Michael at 1:13.7 in session 2, Felipe at 1:14.0. I think MS's time is faster than the pole and 1-lap records. Alonso is over a second behind them both. In fact, he's sitting in 8th place. Both Championships are about to get very interesting.
I had to walk away from the SpeedTV broadcast for a few minutes, but I thought I heard them mention something about the USGP for next year as I returned. Did I miss some news?
what will become of scott speed... He can't write off too many chassis before he becomes more of a liability than he is now.
Kimi Pole- Schumi 2nd- Massa 3rd- Button 4th- Fisi 5th- Rueben 6th- Alonso 7th- Ralf 8th- Pedro- 9th- DC 10th
Kimi is running light. That was his fastest time of the weekend and he hit it on his first tire change. Regardless, good job by Kimi, but I think Ferrari has shown the dominant pace all weekend and I don't expect that to change in the actual race.
Interesting finish for Alonso. Not sure if he's on a different fuel stop strategy, but I really don't think he is. Renault have been too conservative after they built up their early lead, just trying to preserve it. Now it looks like it will come back and bite them. I think Ferrari will win the WCC this year, but I'm not certain on WDC. Advantage MS right now. A 4 point place difference between the two is all MS needs for a few races.
what was Alonso crying about in the pitlane? Michael pitted in front of Fernando and got in front of him exiting the pitlane....we then saw Alonso shaking his fist and heard him whining on the radio!
If the spots remain the same, it's a 6-point place difference between the two (2nd vs 7th). If the fuel strategy is different b/w McLaren and Ferrari (which I believe it is), then it could be an 8-pt difference although I'm certain having Fisi in fifth will help Alonso against Barrichello. Nevertheless, if there is only an 11-pt (or less) difference in the WDC with 6 to go, things will get VERY interesting. MS will have more than a mathematical chance, although the margin for error will be nil.
The pressure is getting to him... Did you hear MSC at the press conference? It was classic! He just said "sometimes it just works out that way..." Good job getting inside FA's head. 'Course, FA got out ahead for the last run and got an extra lap because of it, didn't help him, though! FF!
Fernando was in the fast lane at the speed limit and had to break becuse MS pull out without looking, cars in the alreadi in the pit lane exit have the preference, so MS should had waited, at least in theory. Apparently this is being investigated now by the stewards, although I do not think it really matters, I think the Renaults would had done any better anyway.
It's the lolipop man's responsibility to hold Schumaker until traffic is clear. However, given that MS was about to start his flyer laps, you think the lolipop guy had instructions to ensure he was out before FA?
Doesn't really matter to the end results, but driver can not see this oncoming pit lane traffic, they depend on the lollipop. You have seen this many times in actual race conditions. I think Fernado's reaction of frustration is a sign that Renault's advantage is slowly fading. and they know it. The Ferrari ahs always been the better car on second rate tires. The issue has always been tires, and Bridgestone may have finally become competitive. Maybe 4 races too late, but nevertheless they now look good.
It looked like a regular incident when I saw it on TV, but when I heard MS during the interview, it didn't seem right. I think it's easy to see when he's lying. When asked a simple question, he talks way too long about it, repeats too many things, and justifies it a couple of times. All he needed to say was "the lolly pop when up, I left, he was there. I didn't know." Instead, he keeps going on and on about the same old stuff. Doesn't matter anyways, Alonso wouldn't haven't gotten pole this time.
this is racing day in and day out! you don't think Fernando has ever done this or wouldn't do it if the tables were turned?
I didn't see qualifying and I'm sure happy to see Ferrari in such a good start for the race. I think Alonso will still be a big factor.
I think he wants to get through T1 without getting wacked out of the race by Ralf and Rubens. Whether the car will go the distance, this time, .... (Want to put odds on Kimi carrying extra super-glue to hold down his rear wing?) Remember that Renault is running without their mass damper. ... so that's why they've got the shakes -- not from seeing Ferrari closing in. Trust me.
Just got home a little bit ago and you were pretty darn good in your bet! I was up but we were gone early - went on a bike ride this morning - great event, great route we were on and they had 2,350 bicyclists entered this year - monies go to charities - good way to spend a Saturday morning. Looks like a good race in the works for tomorrow. I bet Fisi will try to split Massa and Button while Alonso goes right on Ruben's left side while Ralf comes flying past Button and Rubens. That's unless Ralf and Alonso happen to have an encounter at turn one. Looks like several drivers are headed to the back of the pack for engine changes. I saw Speed had no times at all - he's better off out of F1 and into NASCAR. There's too many better drivers that could utilize his seat. I read this in an earlier post: "He can't write off too many chassis before he becomes more of a liability than he is now." - what's the story?? Carol
