Wasn't just that comment
Concur...She is WAY overrated. Not saying she can't drive at all, but in a long time in Indy Car racing, she did Bubkis, and that was in really good equipment. Good luck over ahr in NACE CAR. MB
well, like i said...she has hendrick horsepower and a fast, fast hot rod! she is on the nationwide poll.
I think Danica would get a big laugh out of anyone who seriously makes a connection between her "bikini-persona" and her "professional race car driver" persona. I'm sure she knows the difference, even if some people do not.
The irony is that Danica and the ultra conservative Nascar can market a bikini model and Fchat can't post her in it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's my perspective. I din't know much about Danica until the hype about here coming to NASCAR began. I saw some old pics and video of her racing karts and it was easy for me to see that she wasn't doing it to be cool or it was the popular thing to do, she was a racer down to the core. She had a childhood dream of winning the Indy 500 and eventually put herself in a position to do it. That alone is a huge accomplishment and one I admire her for. As she climbs the ranks in her quest to become an Indy Champion support could've come privately but at some point she would have to gain Corporate sponsorship to become a race car driver in her chosen series. Not for one second do I believe she came up with the idea to market herself as a sex symbol to gain sponsorship. I believe she hit a crossroad in her career. She had to make the decision to accept sponsorship and accept THEIR terms, ( let us portray you as a sex symbol ) or pass and hope to obtain a major sponsor that won't market her as a sex symbol ( highly unlikely ). Just for a moment imagine her position. If she rejects GoDaddy's approach she may not secure any sponsors and her racing career could stall and she most likely falls off the racing radar and her dreams and career is finished. Or she could accept the sponsorship on GoDaddy's terms knowing she is still a good racer and can still achieve her goals even if it means having to do some things that in some eyes would seem to compromise her integrity. I would imagine it would be hard for anyone making it to the very top without having to compromise along the way. She did what corporate America wanted her to do. She doesn't flaunt herself and she is not an attention whore. She would be perfectly happy to do a photo shoot in her driver suit standing next to her car and be done with it. If People Magazine wants some shots of her at home I'm sure she would like to dress conservatively. When SI wants her to unzip her suit to reveal a modest bikini top its SI's idea because SI knows what readers want and what sells magazines. The one GoDaddy commercial where she and the fitness girl walk out and its implied that they are naked and she says " I can't believe I'm doing this " always makes me cringe because I think that is the way she really feels. She is a racer to the core and if she could do it HER WAY, I'm sure she would be extremely happy to not do any promotions and do nothing but race with stickers on her car. Unfortunately for her that's now how the game is played. Those with the most money hold the most influence and if you want to play you have to play by their rules. She sucked it up and did what she had to do to continue her path and I respect her for that. I thinks some of the comments directed at her are way off base but fit perfectly for Kim Kardashian. Now there is someone who is extremely superficial, talentless, sexually exploits herself to the max, made a mockery of the sanctity of marriage and is about the worst role model for girls ever yet she is an extremely popular celebrity with a huge media presence and makes millions off the gullible public. Think about that for a minute or two. Now go back to Danica, a racer to the core. Is she really that bad
Oh heck no. You should read the what other sites say about her! She's an OK driver. I admire any one who can drive with the best. But, like Jim said, it's the way she and her sponsors promote her that is wrong. It's not our fault we think of her as a bikini model first and a driver second. It's what's been marketed for years. Is that our fault or someone else's? People say: "Well, she needs the sponsorship money. Do you blame her?" Well, explain the sports illustrated spread then. Did she need the money -- or was she just self promoting her looks? I say the later.
Do you feel the same way about every athlete that has appeared in SI in anything other than their sport's uniform? Haven't there been several male and female athletes that have posed nude except for a few strategically placed props or scantily clad in ways they wouldn't in their normal, private life.
You cannot equate the two. First, you make it sound like there's no difference between men and woman. That's ridiculous. Woman are exploited all the time and men aren't. She's promoting the myth that you the only way a woman can reach her goal is to sell her body. It was wrong and short sighted. Second, show me a series of ads going back to the beginning of their career where an athlete has self promoted their body over their abilities. She has -- on numerous times. She's her own worst enemy when it comes to marketing herself. She made her bed. She needs to sleep in it.
Time is the true test for said driver. At the end of her career the only thing remembered will be what she did or didn't win. So far....one win to her name period. That will not put you in the Hall of Fame with the likes of Mario, AJ, Rick, JR, Richard, Dale, Tony or Jeff. Let the time pass before judgement is made. I believe that based on the performance so far.......not likely.
So her family's investment in her younger ages wern't well done or any of the coaching along the way? Or her first time at Indy she DID lead in later stage of the race ? She does seem to be good at learning in every type of car she gets in as many drivers do. As for the extreme many that COULD do the job , 99.9% will never rise to where they could due to lack of funding in early stages. Just go see a local short track or even club road race , many have talent and a HUGE number of them will probably not even don nomex in 3-5 years from a combination of money and other life demands. It's not like racing enjoys the same status of the stick & ball sports where all the training and leaning is subsidised by taxpayers in school sports.
If someone wants to pay me to drive and looks at my tits, I'm going to be laughing all the way to my etrade account. More power to her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
when she won that race in japan where everyone else ran out of fuel the media was saying she was the first american woman to win a major auto race. it made me mad then and still makes me mad that lynn st. james and her imsa carrer was not considered major! pcb
Last year I went to a charity event here in Phoenix. And I posted my thoughts about one of the celebrity race car drivers. Here it is again - It was a charity event to support a cancer center and a real gem before the hectic Arizona auction week. Here is a list of the V.I.P. race car drivers in attendance - Billy Boat Arie Luyendyk Didier Theys Justin Bell Lyn St James Darren Law Bobby Rahal Dario Franchitti Denise McCluggage Desire Wilson Danica Patrick Now, all but ONE (GUESS WHICH ONE!!!!) was there outside talking to the crowd (maybe 300 people), talking to media, arrived on time, and stayed past the required bare minimum. To make matters worse, they were late (the P.A. system said ****** is stuck in traffic). Sunday 11:00 am? Are you serious? The race car driver did pose for some pictures - inside, behind closed doors, with people who took numbers 1 - 30 in advance. This race car driver hid in the house (pictured below) until their discussion panel started and left via escort just afterwards in their Mercedes-Benz ML63. Wow. Does this "celebrity" just fear people? Hate people? Hate their job? Hate public appearances? Hate all of the above? Image Unavailable, Please Login
let me help you... he went to a great event full of great drivers/celebs. of the many great accomplished drivers there...only one 5' diva was too good to be part of the event and mingle and enjoy the moment. it sounded like she may have been too big a star to be bothered. is that close enough? pcb
This first time I saw Danica in person was a few years back in the garage at Daytona when she was driving a Grand Am car. I too noticed she was VERY unfriendly with fans and the media. I watched as people waited for an hour for her to sign an autograph and she would come outside her hauler to drive and run past the half dozen refusing to sign or get a picture. I thought she was a ***** and thought she would never get far if she brought that attitude to NASCAR. Well she did come to NASCAR and it didn't take her long to figure out how much the fans matter. Soon she was stopping for autographs, posing for pictures, smiling and engaging in small talk. I've even seen her walk over to the fence and sign through it. She made a complete 180 in her attitude towards the public. I liked that she understood and made the adjustment. She keeps progressing as a driver and its fun to watch. I think she will win a race and Daytona is as good a place as any. Hopefully it happens today because I'll be there. I'll be back tonight with some pictures

Bingo! And this wasn't just a bunch of riff-raff either. This was a private event with collector car auction company principles, high profile owners of significant car collections, car museum curators, etc... Our little Scottsdale Diva basically blew off 300 of the most important car people in Phoenix. But that seems to have been her way. Glad to hear she is changing her tune a bit.
