I saw this video too. DDE Dave says he sourced the system from Valvetronic Designs, which lists it on their website for $14,599 in stainless, $19,999 in titanium. As you can see from the photo it's a cat-free design, which the DDE boys get away with because their cars are registered to LLCs located in British Columbia. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wrong, the 6-1 headers are responsible. And to say the truth, F1 had 6-2-1 headers and no real high pitch from the exhaust system. The high pitch from the F1 engines came from the high rev. 599 GTO sound ist the better description. Daniel
Sure, the 6-1 headers change the tone, but i'm referring to the high pitch. You can have the 6-1 headers and it will sound great, but the high pitch murcielago type sound is due to the X-pipe in combination with the headers obviously...
Also, at $15K not sure why on earth you would choose this over Fiammenghi... I suppose if you wanted the high pitch as @fiammenghi doesn't make an X-pipe.
My guess is the DDE boys first went to Alex, their go-to guy for exhaust systems and the owner of a SoCal tuning shop called Gintani, that he told them he's not presently interested in making a system for the 599, and that he pointed them in the direction of Valvetronic Designs. Cost is less important to these YouTube guys than content creation, so they took his advice and placed their order without further ado.
X pipe has nothing to do with the high-pitched scream. My 575M has Fabio's 6-1 headers, no X-pipe and OEM HGTC mufflers and she screams at a very high pitch.
As depicted in their latest YouTube video, the DDE boys have taken their Valvetronic Design equipped 599 one step further (one step too far?) with a "flame tune" ECU reflash courtesy of their frequent tuner, Alex Gintani. Fast forward to the 7:50 mark in the video to see the results. I assume what Alex does is to enrichen the fuel map to an extreme when the throttle is lifted, pumping unburnt gasoline out the exhaust ports, which is then burned inside the tailpipes. According to the narration in the video, the sweet spot for maximum flames is 4,000 rpm. I am sure that I am not interested in this effect, but this kind of thing attracts millions of views to the DDE channel, and millions of dollars to its bank account. Do watch the video for a few minutes after the 8:00 mark, for a good amount of the Formula 1 sound the Valvetronic system delivers to the 599. (
