90 degree day 90% humidity, I decide now is the time to take the Dino for a spin. It's been raining for a week, and today was the first sunny day, so off I went.

Traffic was pretty heavy, so the 2/80 Air conditioning was not an option. So, I powered up the windows and fired up the A/C. And...

IT WORKED. Kept the cabin reasonably cool, as we purred along at 35 mph on the way to the mall.

Frankly, after all the bad stuff I'd heard, I never suspected it would put out enough cool air to make a dent in a 90 degree day. I'm not sure I ever used it before...

AM I LUCKY, OR WHAT!! Suddenly this makes those potentially long trips seem a lot more possible.

Oh my God, Dave, tell me you didn't park that thing at the MALL?

Sure, why not? The doors lock.

Actually it was a MINI MALL with about 5 shops, and I parked in a way far away corner.

But Hell yes, I take the Dino to the mall, the bookstore, supermarket, wherever. Although I have to admit, I do it less now that the paint looks so good. :D

    Well, not right now.....

And you've seen a Dino interior, right? There's lots of vinyl, but no wood that I've ever seen.

Just razzin' ya. But, when I read that sentence, this is the imagery that came to mind. :)

    Congrats on success.
This must be a wonderful feeling as we've been watching this progress from the "bump" that started it all.

Did you do anything special to seal off the front boot area to stop the heated airflow from the radiator area into the passenger cabin?

I have a Euro Dino with no A/C and even on a cooler day I can feel a slight heat flowing into the passenger area. I have the molding on the top of the spare tire well frame to seal it off from flowing between the underside of the front bonnet and I also have the foam that mounts over the radiator too.
I know it isn't from the passenger compartment heating as the previous owner had blanked off the hoses to/from the heat exchangers in the air box path of flow.
    Thank you.

    Nothing special at all.

I have a good piece of foam trapping air in front of the radiator.

Turning off the air fan to the driver's compartment seems to help, too.

Most of the cockpit heat that I experience seems to come from the cooling lines running down the center of the car, and I've insulated that as best I can.

Other than that, it looks like a little luck, and a good mechanic have made most of the difference.

You ARE lucky! My Mondi's A/C only really works when the sun is not too intense and the car is moving along the highway.

Were you able to use Freon-12, the substitue FreezeR-12, or did you go to R-134a?

I thought original Freon was supposed to be eliminated, but heard someone else say that suppliers can get it. True?

    Took a "don't ask, don't tell" attitude.

We didn't retro-fit the system for the new stuff, so, I'm not sure what's in there.

There existed at some point an A/C system, that ran on battery power. A self contained box that would typically sit between the front seats. It worked well in the demo car, I was ready to buy, but it prooved too wide for the Dino.
