Last night it was fine, this morning a perfect line right down the middle from top to bottom, I thought it was a spider web at first. Right now I am in a red haze rage and not rational, nothing hit it, no radical changes in temp etc. It just F'ing broke. So who has replaced a wind shield, where did you get it and any details you can provide would be helpful.

Ugh. That sucks big hairy donkey balls :)

I have heard of these windshield's cracking if you hit your head on the rear view mirror.

Personally I have been very careful every time I am in there cleaning or working and try not to doink it with my head.

No help on the replacement...but do keep us posted on the process. I think we will all be in your shoes at some point.

    Insurance claim?

Same thing happened to me a few years back. One day fine, the next morning an 8 inch crack starting from were the mirror is mounted. Brought it to Ferrari Long Island and insurance covered it.

Broke the 360 Challenge windshield in NJ last year. Found an OEM used one with these guys: Exotic Auto Recycling. Then had a local shop install it for me.

    Good luck

Mine needs to be replaced as well. Has everyone had good luck reusing the metal surround trim? I have a new oem windshield, but no back-up trim in case it gets kinked.

I know two people that had there windshied's replaced and both had to get new trim ,could not be re/used.I think the trim comes with the rubber as a kit not cheap. Not saying a good glass guy can't save it.

Im having a new screen fitted tomorrow. The metal trim and rubber seal come as one unit . In other words you can't buy them separately from Ferrari. We managed to save the metal trim on removal but not the rubber so I had to buy the kit. Not cheap for what it is. I tried to find a seal and looked worldwide but no joy. Ive read somewhere that you can maybe cut them out carefully and save the seal. Maybe so, but after seeing it being removed and trying ourselves to be careful, fair play if you can. We decided early on not to bother. It was stuck in solid. Dash was removed.

    The seal. Trim was good.

It's pretty common to have cracks at the rear view mirror attaching point I've read, mine has them too...allegedly due to thermal stresses. Maybe you had a crack there first then it ran -

A careful installer will be able to reuse it.

    He did in my 348.

Dealer broker my windshield when the car was in for service so replacement was on their dime. They were able to reuse the trim and gaskets.

A crack appeared in mine about a year after I bought it right up near the interior mirror. I can't say for certain that it was not there when I bought it.

I had a UK company I've used before called Glasweld, but they said although it was repairable 1½" long, as soon as they reattached the mirror it would most likely crack/break.

I put up with it for a few years and it did grow but only a little. I sold the car last year in October and the new owner obviously wanted it repairing.
I had to order glass and trim. The fitters were not convinced they could or indeed wanted to save the old trim.

This thread reminded me and I have just text the chap to see how he is with the car.

So where is a good source for the glass? It isn't going to fix itself so I may as well get it ready for the driving season asap.

While new is ideal and and I suspect Daniel at Ricambi would be a good place to start, have you considered contacting Russ at FerrParts? They may have a used windshield if you want to go the used route.

I am more than curious on the parts cost of this. <gulp>

    You contact the insurance company?

So do you think it doesn't actually have anything to do with the rear view mirror? I'm wondering if a different mirror mounting approach would help prevent cracks

also, is it necessary to remove the dash?

Prosource Glass International (google them) has Sigla glass for the 355. They are the OEM manufacturers, and the piece you get from them is identical, except it doesn't have the cavallino on it. Many people (like me) have gotten one from them. I think the glass was around $1100.

Mine cracked at the mirror as well... It had small cracks for about a year after I got it (they were probably there before my purchase) but then one day while detailing my mirror completely came of... okay, no biggie, just need to glue it back on... uhhh.. wait... it took a chunk of glass with it!
The interior layer of glass had completely torn away with the mirror mount, leaving a circular hole that was as deep as half the thickness of the windshield. Glued it back temporarily while I got the new glass shipped in, but the small cracks spread to over a foot in a matter of days.

So if you have small cracks there, be careful adjusting/cleaning the mirror... your glass might actually be shearing at the mount point.
