Yes, I have been living in the dark ages. After a lot of reading and threads here, I decided to give Firefox a try. IE had been doing some crazy things lately and was getting slower and slower. I thought it was my computer, but after several scans and other precautions I knew it wasn't. This thing SMOKES!!!! I never knew the internet could be so fast. Had no idea a browser made this kind of difference...

I set up tabs with websites I visit often just like in IE at the top of the page---Everytime I close Firefox and reopen it--all the tabs are gone--How do I keep them there and reappear when I open the browser?

When I close firefox is asks me if I want to save something when I close it. If I click yes, when I open is it back up it asks if I want to restore the last secession, click yes and the tabs come back.

I went over to chrome for a few weeks. It is much faster than firefox, but more glitchy and I was having a lot of problems displaying some website. Since gone back to firefox.

Give Opera a try... MUCH faster than Firefox and been out for years and years.

I tried 'em all.... Opera has been the quickest, best features, most intuitive, etc. I love it.

I can't believe people still use IE. I've been using firefox for years and pretty much have it perfect for me. I've set up the layout that i like and have addons that i like.

I tried chrome and didn't like the lack of customization. The thing that bothered me most was that the tabs were above the address bar and as far as i could tell, you couldn't change that. Also, Chrome was VERY slow for me. Much much slower than firefox (my version at least)

On the latest version of Firefox it only offers to save your page with tabs when shutting down if you only have one page open (with as many tabs as you want).

You can't have two pages open and you can't have the download box open or it will not offer you the choice to save your page and tabs for next session.

Firefox is brilliant but it isn't perfect and I have have noticed a bug on the latest version that wasn't on previous. On all our computers when you click on Bookmarks it will open the Add Bookmark feature instead of the drop down list. It works the second time.

Chrome may be fast, but Firefox is more user friendly.

And Firefox doesn't tell Google just about everything you do in the internet.

Every time I download a pic or vid from the internet--A box pops up in the left hand corner telling me it is downloading with a progress bar, then it doesn't go away, I have to manually click the red x on the box to remove---Can I get this to stop showing up or at least have the box go away by itself after a download?

In most cases there will be a box in the download box you can check that says "automatically close when download is complete".

I guess if you really want to use Windows Media Player...
Go to your Preferences (Tools -> Options) and click on Applications. Go through and switch the file formats of videos/music to your preferred media player, however be aware that not all file formats will play properly if at all in Windows Media Player.

While you're in the preferences under the Main tab about halfway down there's an option "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file", just uncheck that.

Personally I haven't done any testing in Firefox 3 to see if these still help. But these sped up the experience quite a bit long ago:

So carry Firefox Portable on a memory stick and use that on other people's computers! Applies to many other apps too!

This puts additional strain on websites and while it makes them faster, its really not "healthy" for the website you are browsing. Having said that, it does make websites load pretty damn fast ;)
