I will be visiting Austin for the first time in 3-5 weeks to look for a rental house. I would like to see what I could get for $150K - $175K in a 3 Bdrm house AND in what area of the town that is nice.

My understanding is that Austin is BOOMING and that a purchase could double in 5-7 years. I would buy the house and rent it to my neice that lives there.

    Thanks in advance!!

Look into the circle c subdivision (mls area 10), fairly new homes, and less than 15 minutes from downtown. don't really think you could double your money in 7 years though. if you want to do that, i'd look into getting a place a little north of koening lane, between burnet and lamar. (mls 2) There are a lot of people rehabing houses, and turning a nice profit.

www.austinhomesearch.com is a good place for mls listings.

I'll try to see what I can find.
It would be cool to meet you while you are in town. Let me know if you have time to have a beer together or something.

You might be able to find a smaller home in Circle C for that price range. My aunt's house in Circle C was $255,000 and it's a 2 story with 5 bedrooms, I think.
It is a good neighborhood to look for that price range.

My uncle is selling his condo off 12th street and Castle Hills. Very nice place with 2 bedrooms and a view that faces the Capital. I THINK he bought it for $250k and he's now selling it for $300K. Downtown area is very nice and convenient; i think traffic is heavy though.

I don't think Austin is THAT booming. I'm trying to move to the Barton Creek area here in the next two months.
