    Hey guys,

I just hooked up my stereo and i have 2 Klpisch Floor speakers (1" tweeter, dual 8" woofers) and a KLH 10" Subwoofer connected to a Yamah HTR-5730 (crappy, i know) reciever and Yamah 5 disc cd changer. I am sure I hooked the speakers into the right inputs and I hooked the sub into the "Subwoofer Output" link using monster cable. The problem is, the sub's volume depends on the volume of the entire system...meaning that i cant independatly turn the sub up and have the floor speakers at a different volume. The volume of the sub is dependant on the floor speakers. I was wondering what the problem can be as I have spent hours going through menus and the owners manual.

    Thanks very much.

I looked at page 46 of your Yamaha manual (http://www.yamaha.com/yec/customer/manuals/HTR_5730.PDF)
and noted several issues. In the notes section it says that you cannot adjust the subwoofer level if the "1D BASS" parameter in "SOUND 1 SPEAKER SET" in the set menu is set to "FRONT". It also appears that your Yamaha is like all other receivers in that once you adjust the relative volume level between all of your speakers, including the sub, that all of the speakers' volume will repond to the Yamaha's volume control. The relative difference in volume level between them should remain constant so that as you increase volume one speaker does not disapear but instead rises proportionately with the other speakers. Your Yamaha will allow you a range of up to 20dB in variance between the level of the sub and the front speakers. Therefore, if set up correctly, you can boost the volume to your sub by more than 20dB over your other speakers. If you want more than this and your sub has a volume level, use the sub's volume control.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks, I adjusted the speaker levels and it made it a bit better but i want it to be louder (I already turned the volume of the subwoofer all the way up). Do you or anybody else have any other ideas to make it kick harder?

    Thanks,

    Ilya
