What do you see in your crystall ball for 2009?

  1. Honda will go under, no buyer, 18 cars at Melbourne.

  2. Honda will be bought, renamed and we'll have 20 cars.

  3. Another team will go under as well. The FIA will step in mandating 3 cars.

  4. Button will stick with Honda and get a ride with the new owner.

  5. Button will stick with Honda and not drive in 2009.

  6. Button will get the 2nd Toro Rosso seat in the last minute.

  7. Senna will stick with Honda and get a ride with the new owner.

  8. Senna will stick with Honda and not drive in 2009.

  9. Senna will get the 2nd Toro Rosso seat in the last minute.

Time is ticking and I haven't seen a savior coming to rescue Honda. Button is sticking it out apparently with "Honda", a nice move, but could end his F1 career.

So I thought it'd be time for a little FChat poll. Since there are many non competing questions, you can answer multiple times:

I voted for what I hoped for, rather than having any conviction it will happen.

The fact that reports that Fry is also interested in purchasing the team, and current staff members are concerned that it represents a conflict of interest, putting the possible sale in severe jeopardy, as well as their futures, doesnt make good reading.

Time is really running out now, I really hope they can get something sorted in time.

From what I've read, Honda has already paid the lease on the factory, as well as covered many of the expenses of the team over the next few years. So any buyer would just need to provide operating capital and ideally some sponsorship. Honda doesn't want to give all their R&D and investment up to someone who will pee it away, but I think that as the deadline draws closer, there is going to be a lot of pressure from Max and especially Bernie to just get the team into new hands. Honda will be told that the new regulations and standardizations will help the new owner to cope. That will help to urge Honda to sell the team to a buyer they would not otherwise have sold to.

The Honda operation will retain Senna and Button, but there will be rumblings of "financial problems" for their entire duration as a team.

If they are lucky, they will survive long enough to make it through this economy and will be picked up by a real buyer in the future - but by that time they will have major cash flow problem and debts. If they are unlucky, they will cease operations mid-season amongst growing debts and sponsors who don't live up to their sponsorship commitments*.

*If Vodafone is late on payment, McLaren can handle it. If XYZ Co were late on payment, it could sink the Honda team.
