I'm sure the guy had ear plugs, but just not the ones that are connected with a chord. There's no way you can stand next to an engine like that and not cover your ears. You would already have to be deaf to do that. Even if you are deaf, I bet you could still feel the vibration in your teeth.

Did anyone else notice the Honda headers didn't got that hot compared to the Arrows (Asiatech?)? I think both are Inconel, but maybe there's a ceramic coating on the Honda's or something I don't know about. I like the way the Arrows looks more, though :) Use them as headlights at night.

That was done at the end of the year after the last race. There's also a vid somewhere around with one "playing" When the Saints Go Marching In. The teams have a bit of a contest to see who can out do the others.

If you look closely at the Asiatech you'll notice that they've got flames coming out of the exhaust the entire time. That means whoever is controlling the engine ecu (they do it in real time with a little joy stick controller) is dumping extra fuel in to help get the headers heated up. I.E. they're getting extra unburnt fuel dumped into the headers.

There was a guy on here either last year, or two years ago, who'd worked for one of the teams and explained it at length and in good detail. I haven't done a search for it yet but if you'd like I'd be more than happy to help. It's a good read with a couple of other video links.
