Probably not a coincidence that within a very short time, both Toyota and Honda F1 teams have sacked their technical directors (Gascoyne and Willis).
Both teams are heavily budgeted and can't get decent results.
I have always predicted that manufacturers are going to stay in F1 only if they win.
Most company managements are in the end answerable to their shareholders and there is little return for the huge sums both Honda and Toyota have spent. In between, they blame the (European) technical staff and bring in Japanese to improve things.

I think you will see either Gascoyne or Willis at either Williams or McLaren in the not to distant future, probably Gascoyne at Williams and Willis at McLaren.

Geoff Willis is still a 'fully contracted' Honda employee, team chief Nick Fry has insisted.

Dismissing reports and rumours that the usurped Technical Director had already quit in protest of Shuhei Nakamoto's promotion, Fry did however admit that Willis is on what is known in F1 circles as 'gardening leave' in order to consider his future.

It is understood that at the end of a week or two of 'gardening leave', Willis will then need to tell Honda that he will accept a lesser role or hand in his notice.

"I think it's mountain-biking leave actually," Fry said in a Montreal press conference.
"He's riding up and down hills and thinking about what he wants to do."

What he won't end up doing, however, is running Honda's new state-of-the-art wind tunnel; that job has gone to Argentine and aerodynamicist Mariano Alperin

They are missing an AWSOME driver. Good drivers don't cut it. They need someone great behind the wheel.

I really rate Gascoyne. I say Mac and Williams will fight hard for him. Willis I don't know enough about to have an opinion. I think you're right about Toyota and Honda using them as scapegoats. They finally found a playground that they can't immediately dominate with money, and they don't like it. No bets on how long it takes them to pick up their ball and go home....
