    Fellow Fchatters,

My fiancee, Sharon, and I are getting married New Year's Day 2006. For a number of reasons (work, weather, school, dog, etc.) we've decided to save the "real" honeymoon for April/May 2006 instead of right after the wedding. For our honeymoon, we were thinking that we would do some backpacking around Europe, mixed with staying at some nice hotels towards the end of the trip. Compared to our earlier Europe travels as students, we would do it up a bit nicer.

We know Europe fairly well; I lived in Nice, France for a year, and she joined me for the last six months. I've also lived in Rome for a summer. So we're quite comfortable there. The idea is that we would see some places we haven't seen, and revisit some of our favorite places... perhaps staying at, say, the Negresco in Nice for a night or two, you know, something along those lines.

Then the idea came up that it might be pretty extraordinary if we could catch the GP in Monaco while we were there. Given that we're very flexible on time, and were thinking April/May 2006 anyway, it looks like it could be a natural fit.

I've never been to a GP race, but we've both watched our share on TV. I don't have a lot of instincts when it comes to this, so we were wondering if any of you GP veterans could take a moment and paint a few "scenarios" that could work for us?

The financial side is a concern, but it's also our honeymoon, so there is funding available to do it "right". I'm thinking top-notch grandstand seats (I've read K is good, but really have no idea). I think that staying at a hotel in Monaco itself might get too expensive, but that is always a possibility. Other options are to stay in Nice or Cannes and take the train (man, have we done that a few times!)...

Any ideas on some ways that we could make this work? Consider us there in the Nice/Cannes/Monaco area already, so flights/transportation doesn't need to figure in... Also, some rough ideas of pricing would be most helpful.

    Thanks guys!

    --Mike

Stay in Nice(reserve now!), take the train to the GP.

ANY stand is great in Monaco, you're so close. Pick what you can afford.

On Monday, following the race go to Monaco with a rental car and drive the circuit for yourself. Most armcos, stands, ads are still in place. Great fun!

dont stay in canne,, its to far away from monaco,,, normal train take what 30 mins, ,, during race time,, the train never gets above 10mph,,, takes about 90mins to 2 hrs, so stay as close as you can afford,,, friend now has flat in antibe and goes their each year which is much closer than canne and says the train journey is ok,,,,

suggest the french life brochure for hotels,,,,,,,, the normal tickets about 80euro are crap,,,,,, ho are miles from the stand,,, either get passes so you are in the grandstand,, (dont know hom much these are),,,, or pay for hospitality,,, we paid 500euro each,, but were 20yds from start line,,,, on about 1 st floor flat,,, then second half of race at top flat so you could see the circuit,,,,, free beer and food,, vino etc,, but not over the top,,,,

tkae ear protection if you are at all near the cars,, when the cars were passing the flat,, I had ear plugs in and still had to put hands over ears or it was painfull,,,,

fantastic weekend,,,, get their early on the sunday as they have races in the morning before the main grad prix, also racing on the saturday night,, porsche cup etc,,,, which is very good,,,,,,

    book early,,,
    book early,,,,
    book early,,,,

    enjoy and best wishes,,,,

also think that in 2006 around that time, there is going to be the World Cup, and that is pretty much the biggest event ever.....

so trains, boats, hotels etc are gonna be packed with FANATICS! from around the globe

The World Cup is in Germany. I don't think that will have any influence on Monaco at all.

I have spent a little over a year over in Europe and did the backpacking thing, and also went to the Spanish GP in Barcelona with a female companion. While it is a really fun trip, in my opinion I do not think it would be best for a "honeymoon" type of trip. Backpacking and the GP race are just really busy crazy things, and even though I love the GP, girls can get bored pretty easily even though they can try their hardest to pretend to be interested. I would just rather my honeymoon be more relaxed with less running around. So I say do the trip, but don't call it your honeymoon, for that just go spend a weekend at a hotel on a beach somewhere. Good luck and congrats.

See my post from earlier today in the thread entitled "Grand Prix of Monaco" in the general "Ferrari Discussion" section, and feel free to pm me if you have specific questions. I've been to the Monaco GP yearly since '92, and know the drill pretty well.
