I can't think of a more romantic tropical location than St. Barths. My wife and I have had great stays at Le Toiny on the island.
It's hard to beat the British Virgin Islands. In fact, I will be leaving for a sailing trip there with my wife on 12-30-05 and can't wait. I like Virgin Gorda the best out of the BVIs. As far a resorts go, Little Dix Bay is very nice...http://www.littledixbay.com/ If you have a little more money to spend, try Richard Branson's Necker Island...www.necker.com I have also rented a private villa there and had a blast as well...http://www.adagiovilla.com/ Either way, the BVIs and wonderful ,especially Virgin Gorda, and will give you a great romantic place to spend your honeymoon.
Went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this past September. Not too touristy, very economical. Lots of history, jungle, beaches, fish, clearwater and all the spicy food you can shake a stick at. The weather is pretty good most of the year round. I had a blast taking an ATV tour through the country side and toured a tequila distillery mmmnnnnn!
Jamica used to be a great place to go...I have been several times including Sandels, Grand Lido and Hedonism, all in Negril. However, the locals have got so aggressive its hard to even enjoy yourself once you get out of the confines of the resort and I would not even consider bringing a lady there...especially a young bride!
Went to Austria..stayed at castles, rented a car drove from Vienna, Innsbrook, Salsburg...all the sites as we went South & over Brenner pass into northern Italy, Bolzano...ended up in Munich.. Very romantic, carriage rides, museums, the Alps out your bedroom window.
A month between St. Lucia, Barbados, and Jamaica........... Started in St. Lucia where a private helicopter picked us up and brought us to the property between the twin pitons.... then it gets better from there.
I recommend St. Lucia. Beautiful island. My wife and I chartered a helicopter for a tour of the island (very affordable compared to heli tours in the US), took a catamaran trip down the west coast of the island and took a jeep trip through the rain forest. I would go back again.
Depending on the season: - Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos. Veg in style. The Big 3 in Anguilla are much the same but not as laid back. - Provence, Cote d'Azur, Monaco, Italian Riviera. Wonderful food and wine, super hotels, beaches not great but who cares. Almost as many exotic cars as Greenwich. - Lake Como. Good enough for George Clooney, need I say more? - Sicily. My wife and I honeymooned there, but we had traveled together a lot. We had a blast but it might not be for everyone. - Haven't been, but both the Seychelles and Mauritius are supposed to be incredible (and recovered from the Tsunami, I believe). But as I'm sure you would agree, there's no wrong trip with the right woman. Best regards.
I went to St.Lucia as well and love it. We stayed at Ladera, the hotel is great. The fourth wall is fully exposed to the outdoors - high up between the Pitons and bay. It's really amazing.
I just got back from my wedding/honeymoon on St. John, USVI. Spent 10 days there. Amazing place, amazing culture. Have about 10 gigs of photos I'm sifting through. I'll post some up when I finish editing them. Can't wait to go back.
Ours was 4 days at Hilton Head (Ferrari club track days and concours) and 3 days in Paris. Don't go to Paris in the winter. HH is nice, but a bit touristy, my sis in law has a place in the outer banks that we'll go to for our next vacation.
I was there in 2000 for my honeymoon maybe things have changed? I was offered drugs a few times, but for the most part the locals left us alone. We walked over to Hedonism, all the wrong people were naked on that beach!!!
I went to Sandels in Antigua. The resort / island were beautiful and the people were extremely friendly. I would go back in a second.
Coral Sands hotel on harbor Island in the Bahamas. Pink sand. Most romantic place ive ever been. http://www.coralsands.com/
Keep looking In my opinion, Aruba is a boring place. There's one little section on the whole island that's a little lively. I went there a couple of years ago and I wanted to come back to NY early. A lot of people rave about Aruba but I really can't say I enjoyed it there. I've never been to St. Marteen but I hear it's suppose to be very nice, maybe check that out.
