Hi chaps, New to HK. just settling down and getting to know my way around. My 430 Spider is all registered and ready to use in hong kong. Can the HK members pls help with some advice. I live at hollywood road....where is the nearest carwash? WHats the best sat nav system i can get? bear in mind i do not understand, read or write chinese.(learning slowly) And finally if you guys are getting together then would love to join for a driveout etc. brds bigmoose
Welcome to fchat! Glad to have another HK member on board. Did you import your 430 from abroad? To answer a few questions, the best car wash can be subjective but i know a friend took his 599 to a place up in happy valley, the street above where car city was, if anyone else can help out here, i forget the street name. Also in happy valley carcity opened up their own car wash and i would imagine it to be very good. www.carspa.hk Best nav system is hard to say also, but HK is a small place you will figure out where to go and how to get there in a short time, so dont worry too much about nav, i would worry more about getting it installed than actually getting lost in HK. Im not from HK originally either.
Hey Jonathan, thks for yr inputs. Hk forums not so busy uh? I was actually looking for one of thre Tom Tom / Garmin equivalent... i have found a palce in Mongkok that specialises in them...will report findings. Got my autotoll to work today...so thats a start. thanks once again.
Hey Bigmoose, welcome to Hong Kong. When you mentioned Tom Tom, I presume you're referring to those GPS device that's mounted on the suction cup device off your windshield or something? Not sure if you would find good selection here as drivers here in HK seems to prefer a LCD screen off the radio/head unit for the more OEM look. Do watch out as I generally found a huge disparity of expertise among those radio installer in MK.
Unless you're getting one for cool gadget value, I wouldn't think there's any need for GPS in HK. You'll pretty much be able to get yourself around in no time at all as the roads are clearly signed and the streets generally pretty simply set out. Although I was playing around with a Tom Tom back in the UK and it's a great bit of kit.
I have a few of them and it is fun to watch how they work when you know the roads well and the GPS is telling you to do things that are obviously wrong. GPS more useful in China. In HK useless other than for entertainment value. One benefit of playing with GPS is that I am much more familiar with road names. At a red light I will check out road names and it is amazing how I have driven on or by roads for many years with no idea what the road name is. Good luck with your 430 Spider - a perfect car for HK.
Hi DM ever gone round in circles using GPS 'cos the map dont know the one way streets? Happened to me in Shau Kei Wan once! BTW, saw a red 430 Spider in Cyberport the other day with a neat reg number playing a DM version of the latin expression for "Seize the day". Anything to do with you? PAUL
Red 430 Spider nothing to do with me. Only new plate I have is on my 993RS As I mentioned in my post, I pay no attention to my GPS except for entertainment value so it has not led me in circles - I can do that all by myself. GPS is useless in HK
So watch out for the short form of "seize the day" = "Carpe Diem" or "CARPE DM" = neat!...and hence my thoughts of DM18
