Hood cover

I would call that a "bra" strap LoL but my car with top folded down doesn't need it. Don't you use a Boot Cover ?

 

Here in the Republic of Texas,

we call that lifty thingy at the front of the car -- "The Hood".
we call that lifty thing at the very back of the car -- "The Trunk Lid".
we call that lifty thing in the middle, over the engine -- "The..." well, I don't know what to call it! Proper cars only have 2 lifty thingys.

It's the "fanny pack" that throws me.
Fortunately, the Mondial doesn't have one.

 

What about the lifty thing that goes over your head?

... and the covery thing that covers the cover that covers your head?

 

...... and how about the 'Spider Top' that covers the top, despite the fact that the top is no longer on top - - not covering anything, not even the top of your head??

LOL! I have a Coupe! Although, I do have a non-functional "slidy thingy" over my head.

I've just ordered the parts to fix it. Hopefully in the next week or 2, I'll have a functional slidy thingy in the roof.

Which brings up another naming quandary. Is that slidy thingy called a "Sun Roof" or a "Moon Roof"? What's the difference?

P.S - I have another car with the overhead lifty thingy - my 67 Karmann Ghia vert. On most cars, I'd call it a convertible top. On my KG, I call it a Fing, rube-goldberg, most poorly designed POS - in the history of the world. I've been replacing it for about 6 months (I travel a lot, so I don't get a lot of actual work time in). However, to replace the top on this car, you must have carpentry skills (bows and headers), seamstress skills (lots of sewing), and mechanical/wrenching skills. A local CV top shop quoted me $2500 to replace it. At the time I thought they were insane and just trying to gouge me! Now I know better.

If you click on his public profile he has a Mondial 348T. Not sure if that is one or two cars?

 

My theory is over here in the states we call the back storage compartment the truck for historical reasons. Trunk as in luggage AKA steamer trunk. The large box on the back of three of these vehicles. When vehicles evolved the luggage or storage moved internal but the name stuck.

I always put the tonneau in the sun for a while before installing it, helped the leather to relax.

The difference between a sun roof and a moon roof is whether the slidy-panel is glass or solid. Moon roof is glass, sun roof only allows light in when open.

 

Yes, the US/Canadian trunk comes from steamer trunk as Dirk described, the boot comes from coachmen sitting on the boot locker where they stored their boots.
The question is - what do we call the front boot or trunk on the Mondi as it is not in the rear of the car but is still for storage....

Our beloved Mondials have raised the bar as regards boots, trunks and storage space.

As for my Rachel ......... she has a front boot, a rear boot, an engine compartment and a passenger compartment. And just for fun, I've even started calling the passenger compartment, "the tub".

And "steamer trunks" make wonderful coffee tables.

It's quite a hot rod too. A bunch of period go fast goodies in the engine bay. A sight to behold. I'm a fan of hot rod flat heads.
