My notes have the stock rear one with the electrical pass-thru = Sachs Stabilus SG337001 (and US version needs two - one for the brake light and one for the underbonnet lights). The stock front are Sachs Stabilus SG437003.

Sweet. Surprisingly, the rears are best priced from Ricambi. I'll hunt for the fronts

Just note - the SG402012 are 'uprated' vs the stock ones (more pressure / stronger etc). I did mine in 2014 and the bonnet still stands up great - and I've had the bonnet up a lot! FWIW.

Done. Although the rears are a little more than Ricambi, the fronts were available whereas Ricambi were out of stock.

Hey Christian, replaced them about 2yrs ago. Still going strong, I can have the front hood up at a 45degree angle (level ground off course) and it will stay up.

Gotcha. I dont mind paying extra for lifetime....as long as it outperforms 'normal' hahah.

The struts cost peanuts in the grand scheme of things....its the scraped knuckles I hate.

I did mine in 2012 and they are DEAD.

4 struts changed in less than an hour and cost ~$220.

Yes, passenger side through the battery cutout and drivers side through the opposite side (4x 10mm socket bolts). Lights up and power disconnected of course.

Just did the job on my ‘85 using these ones:

Part No: 60559500 from superformance. For a Mondial following advice on here somewhere.

Took an hour or so and had go in through the light on the passenger side (no hatch). It wasn’t as hard as I was expecting. What I wasn’t expecting was that they didn’t hold the bonnet up when I’d finished!

    £100 wasted.

Did you measure the force required to compress them before installing? These smaller ones lose their "freshness" a lot quicker than ones with larger volume. There should be a "XXXN" printed on the body showing the force in Newtons (which could give you an argument for having Superformance replace or refund them).

However, the note I have (from Rifledriver) is the F part number is 6056330 for the higher force (103 lbs/460N) Mondial gas spring (this is for the Mondial rear luggage compartment lid) to use on the TR front bonnet. 60559500 is for the Mondial front bonnet so you may have the wrong part (that has a lower force).

It’s a good point, but no, I didn’t notice the spec on the side and have no way to measure it anyway. What I can say is it was impossible to collapse them without putting on end on a hard surface and putting a fair reasonable force on it. I’d take the hit as a lesson learned but I don’t really want to go through the whole process again and end up with the same result!

Thanks very much for your help by the way. Much appreciated nudge in the right direction and at least I have now had a practice run - not as bad as I thought - even on my own.

why not? just put one end on a normal scale where you also check your weigth and press them together. then you can read at the scale how much N they have

    Hi,

‘what would the Sachs part number be, for the Mondial rear gas spring?
The current Sachs SG437003 is still quoting a force of only 330nm

If you mean the Mondial rear luggage compartment lid, Rifledriver gave it as: "Sachs SG437005-W" (there is also the Mondial Rear Bonnet gas spring which is something different).

Per Rifledriver's recommendation, it would work on TR SN 76001 and after and 512TR.

Just realized that yours is a 1985 TR (so probably below SN 76001). The pics of front bonnet gas springs for the early TR and later TR look very similar physically, but there may be some difference -- for example, the end hole being a slightly different size? Or it may be that they just have a different force. Please let us know if you need to make any modifications to use the 6056330 on an early TR.

I have a set of 6056330 installed (per Rifle's rec) on my early 1986 TR. (IIRC no mod was necessary.) They are VERY strong.

    Hi Steve,

I’ve just fitted 6056330 as you suggested with no trouble or mods at all! As you can see from the photo they work a treat. Thanks for your help, I can get rid of my 3ft long bit of wood now!!
