I have one of the very last C4 made, and it has a Series 3000 FIAMM air horn compressor. I have spoken with other C4 owners and they all have oil in their compressors and an oil filler nozzle on the top cap. My horn is very weak (no pun intended!!) so I have removed the compressor to check it out. When I took the top cover off, which has no oil filler nozzle, there was no oil at all. The compressor works by having the vanes which slide out of the spinning hub, seal with the inside of the cylinder. (See photo) They look like they are made of graphite impregnated delrin. So my question is, do I lubricate it with graphite powder or light machine oil?? I have posted it here as you 365GT4 2+ 2 and 400 owners may have the same compressor.
    Thanks

I drove through some water and so mine stopped working. I pulled it apart, cleaned it up and lubed it with WD40. I think its loader than before. The key seems to be that the vanes move freely. I don't think they are coated. When I cleaned my with brake cleaner the black came off. I think its the metal dust from the hub.

On closer inspection I found a small (maybe 5mm diameter) black plastic cap on the side about 2/3 the way down the unit. I suspect it is a oil filler hole just like on hydraulic jacks but I do not want to put oil in there just in case it is not the oil filler hole. It is where I would suspect the electric motor to be located. Is that the oil filler hole??
    Thanks
