This issue has plagued me for over a year. The initial problem was the the wire fro the button to the plastic disc under the hub broke free so I had no horn. I used liquid solder and got horn working but had occasional horn honking when steering. I tidied up the 'solder' job and all was well for some months. Solder broke and I was both neater and stronger with solder this time, but honking was back.

Today I set time to resolve for good?? With front of car lifted I could do testing without having to drive the car even with the steering wheel off if needed. I was able to test after each step of assembly and got it all together with the center nut lightly torqued (say 25 ft-lb) and took a drive and no honking. I did final assembly with nut torqued to 70 ft-lb (spec is 12 kg-m or 88 ft-lb) and never figured I would have a problem and I did not make it out of the garage without it honking. It honks even with the button removed. After two more rounds of assembling and progressively torquing the nut I found that at 40 ft-lb it was okay and 50 ft-lb it honked both times at same torque. If you torqued to 50 or 60 and backed off it would stop honking without pulling the hub, so this is very strange.

I did final assembly with Loctite at 40 ft-lb. For the moment I am comfortable to drive it like that. I will look to replace the nut in near future.

I can't imagine anyone having the exact same experience. So two questions:
    - has anyone had their horn honk when steering? If so, how did you resolve?
    - can anyone comment on not having the center nut fully torqued? I am hoping for Brett to chime in on this one.

Do you have pictures of the puller you used to pull the wheel off? How about a brief description on steering wheel removal? Thanks, my headlights haven't worked in a couple of years, just another thing on "the list".

I'll try to send pic on Friday of the puller. It is generic one with two sets of grips and four total arm lengths. Two arm.

Here is pic of the puller; it does job great. Grabs back of steel hub without marring it.

It is a Craftsman part number (not certain of all of it) WFF? 46905

There are lots of possible set ups as you can see. It is in the position I used to do the job.

Thanks for posting. Sorry I have no suggestions on your horn problem other than when you push the button it completes the ground.
