Hi, My horn stopped working, so I pulled the switch off at the steering wheel and found the black wire that is attached to the switch with a spade connector going nowhere. What and where does this wire connect to? Any help would be appreciated. Ron

    Dear Ferraristi,

First, look at the spade at the end of the black wire. Is the metal piece where the spade attaches to broken off and stuck in the spade?

If so, you need a new horn ring. Your steering wheel is made by MOMO and a standard MOMO hub and horn ring is available from any sportscar accessory store....no need to go to the F pimp.

If there is no metal piece in the spade....it's your lucky day and the spade just came off the horn ring. If you look inside the steering wheel ( where you just pulled the horn button out), you will see the horn ring with the male spade. Just reattach the spade back. Before you do, with a set of needle nose pliers, squeeze ( gently) the spade grip points down....then reattach.

If you've reattached it and the horn still doesn't work, check the fuse. When the wire came off, it could have touched other surfaces and blow the fuse.

Let us know what you find.

Ron, It looks like you are already connected to the spade that Shamille describes. I think that the wire has separated inside the steering column asssembly. I have never taken one apart far enough to find out where that wire goes. Somebody who has been there will probably chime in.

I think you have to remove the steering wheel...(be careful no to strip or round over the allen bolts (that may be hidden by a little black trim ring around the horn button opening which just pry's off). With the wheel off, I think the hub shroud should slip off (6" or so piece of plastic). From there you should be able to see the other half of the wire or where it connected....Under the hub are two copper bits that transfer the current to steering shaft..

I am doing this from memory when I replaced the wheel last fall....

I don't have a picture of the TR turn signal assembly, but, if it is like this 308 turn signal assembly, your black wire broke off from the riveted connection, or got severed, etc.:

I removed the steering wheel and the plastic cover and there is nothing to connect the wire to as in the attached picture . This hub also has a special looking nut with 4 slots in it that has to be removed to get it off and gain access to what I am assuming the TR has a simular version to, like in Steve's picture. There is one round hole at the 12 o'clock position that can be seen in the picture next the nut that might give the wire acess to the rivet through it? I don't have the tool to take the nut off, and if I could get it off (suggestions appreciated), how does the wire get riveted back in and will I be looking forward to any surprises when it comes off(springs etc)? Ron...where are you located?

Again I did it from memory and I thought that connection was under that cover, not further down...sorry about that........That nut takes a special socket...some guy's have made one and others bought them....based upon where you are located, someone may be able to help you in removing the nut....if the wire broke off the rivet, I assume you could jusr solder it on...but i will let others chime in on that one....

If you do a search on "TR ring nut" you should get a couple of threads on the subject like this:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89832&highlight=Tr+ring+nut

Not only do you you need a special tool (either bought or made or stooged ;)) to get the ring nut off, you'll need a puller (and maybe a whack) to pull the hub off, or some good technique using a punch to give the steering shaft a gentle whack while you pull up on the hub (IIRC, Verell B. had some posts describing this technique) -- it's a very shallow-angle taper fit between the steering shaft and the steering hub that is sort of self-locking :(

Once you do get inside, I'm sure it will be fairly obvious how to fix (recrimp, resolder, etc. as Adam noted) -- but I'd sure appreciate it if you'd post a picture of what's inside -- TIA (and feel free to give shout if we can help in any way).

I surrender, I'm going to take it in for a professional to fix this and my AC. If I would have had the right tools, I would have gone further into the horn problem. Without the proper tools I felt I could screw up the hub and get even deeper into the problem. I am going to attempt to install a complete Stebro "off road" exhaust from the precats back, and I'll let you know how this goes. I think the system comes out through the bottom, but if this is wrong let me know. I really appreciated all your help. Thanks Ron

    Dear Ferraristi,

Don't give up just yet. This is a job you can do yourself. The tool you need is called the FR 103 or FR 104 from www.baumtool.com

Steve M and I concluded that two sizes of nuts were used on the steering column. It's either one or the other for your car. Mine uses FR 104.

The steering hub puller can be bought from Sears. #947626.

If you're going to do the exhaust....you can do this. Get the tools and we'll walk you through it. I only ask for a tall thin blonde in return.

Is it just me or did anyone else make the connection between a "Hub Puller" & "A Tall Thin Blonde"?, curious minds would like to know!

Hi Shamile, I figured since I'm getting the AC fixed, I would let the pro fix the horn as well. Besides I could only come up with a short thin red head on short notice. Thanks much and I will let you know how I make out with the exhaust. Ron
