There is no reason why the Best Driver in all F1 should settle for a now 3rd rate team.....some might say 4th. If judging on Yuki alone, perhaps a few pegs lower....and sinking...

2026 is a new formula so it's going to be a reshuffle of where everyone stands.

Won't change talent and mental fortitude. Max is tough as nails and can overcome changes if anyone can.

Drivers like Yuki, Lulu, etc, not so much....

And if he gets the gig at Alpine with a stake in the team, that would suit him fine!

The best thing about Horner being fired is that it take all the attention away from Ferrari's ongoing failures.

Wow. The must have wanted him out really badly!

I have a feeling that their reply will be “Go ahead and sue us or simply take the payout over the next five years that’s in the contract.” Unless they fired him for cause in which case I would think the contract would be pretty specific about what he might be owed, if anything.

So from that I gather that he was not fired for cause which, depending upon the terms of his contract, might strengthen his case for a hefty settlement. Certainly his firing could not be justified by lack of performance over time, and he’s well past firing for last year’s scandal. I wonder if he was offered a settlement in the London meeting. The article really isn’t terribly enlightening.

I think Max is going to take a hit to his popularity (which isn't all that great anyway... though seemed to be improving) due to this Horner business. That fact that "daddy" is fighting his battles behind the scenes and in front isn't a good look. Lewis managed that relationship very well with his father... Jos is one of the most arrogant pricks with a long history of ugly behavior. I'm not even sure Max could stay at RB after that. I have a friend who lives in the UK and has a circles of friends who work and know of others who work at the factory. She said that Christian was mostly beloved by the team with most of having been brought on by him in one way or another. The other people they ****-canned were also very well liked. I just don't think Max's daddy is doing him any favors. I'm not sure why he's even in and around F1 the way he is... let alone having such a voice and influence... except using his son for power. Either way... not a good look for Max no matter how you slice it.

Have fun building a new legend. And have the chance to rub Red Bull's nose in it.

What role will Christian Horner play at Red Bull in the future? The Red Bull statement says he has been removed from his operational duties (but not released totally)? - Mike

First, let's clear up what Red Bull has and has not said.

Red Bull said that it had "released Christian Horner from his operational duties".

It made no other statement about Horner's employment situation. Horner did that himself, by saying in his farewell speech to Red Bull staff: "I will still remain employed by the company, but, operationally, the baton will be handed over."

This does not mean Horner will still have a role to play at Red Bull in the future. He won't. His involvement with Red Bull is over.

He has been fired as team principal and chief executive officer of the F1 team, and as soon as a severance deal is negotiated he will no longer even be technically employed.

That may take some time to finalise. But any links or influence Horner has with or over Red Bull are finished.

Do you think Christian Horner will join Alpine as team principal? He's apparently a great friend of [executive adviser] Flavio Briatore. - Carol

Since Horner was removed from his position at Red Bull, there have been suggestions in some quarters that he would be very attractive to a number of other teams in F1.

Alpine is one idea that is doing the rounds, although they have just signed Steve Nielsen as managing director - ie, de facto team principal - to start work in September.

Ferrari has come up again. And there is the question of whether he could return as a co-owner somewhere - Alpine, for example, is said to have about a 20% shareholding up for sale.

But is Horner as attractive an option as some have suggested?

He has been a very successful team principal at Red Bull - the team have won eight drivers' titles, six constructors' titles and 124 grands prix under his leadership.

And there is no question that Red Bull under Horner had a fleetness of foot and improvisational aggression that quite often left their rivals trailing.

But any team wanting to employ him will have to weigh that against potential downsides, many of which were involved in the reasons for Red Bull removing him.

Firstly, Horner typically wants total control. But you can't have total control as a team principal if the team you are running is part of a wider company.

So, at Alpine, for example, he would ultimately be answerable to Renault's board. At Ferrari, to chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna. Ultimately, the power would rest with them, not Horner. Could he stomach that?

Then there is the question as to whether a single leader is still as impactful in F1 these days.

Look at McLaren, for example, and the success they have had with chief executive officer Zak Brown in charge, but focusing mainly on the commercial side, and Andrea Stella as team principal with responsibility for running the team itself.

Horner wanted to do all that - and more - himself.

Then there is the fact that Red Bull were clearly in decline under Horner.

A Horner-led Red Bull without design chief Adrian Newey has not looked anywhere near the force it used to be.

Horner meant probably that he has been relieved of his functions at Red Bull Racing and put in gardening leaves for an undisclosed period.

Let's start with the basics. Horner has a contract with Red Bull. We don't know what it says but I am sure there is a Termination Section that is bilateral.....meaning either party can give notice to the other. Additionally it would spell out any payments that would be owed to Horner if Termination by Red Bull occurred.

UK Law as well as EU Law would also mean that Termination by Red Bull would void any future employment restrictions that they might have in place leaving Horner to sign with anyone he chooses. He would still be bound by any Trade Secrets that Red Bull has claimed and would not be able to use them at a competitor. Trade secrets are a really grey area in F1.

At this point Red Bull has exercised its Notice but Horner remains an employee during the remaining notice period. In all likelihood he does not need to show up and the clock is simply ticking down which gives him plenty of time to consider alternatives.

I believe he had a year or two left on his current contract which means they likely will be writing him a check for the rest of the contract. Not a bad deal for him.

I wish him nothing but the best. No Team Principal has been more successful.

So Oliver Mintzlaff is behind Horners dismissal with the backing of Thai and RedBull shareholders.

Oliver Mintzlaff is managing director of RedBull GmbH.

This dismissal didn't come from the RedBull camp i.e. Jos Verstappen.

The Verstappen side wanted Horner out, so they may have put their grievances to Red Bull Gmbh which had the same agenda.
