Okay, I may be blowing this out of proportion but it does suck. I was thinking of getting a new steering wheel, but with how bad the turning radius is in this car, it would *feel* weird having a smaller circumference steering wheel but not sharper turning. I despise the stock steering wheel in these cars more than anything else. Is it possible to improve the radius (noob question). Thanks.
You could put a fiorano or challenge steering rack in. They are "faster" (different teeth design). Other than that...
I have no issue, turn wheel apply gas hard, turn done You would need to totally change the front geometry, not practical at all
I'm putting this wheel in as a replacement. I still need to machine an adapter. Its a smaller diameter, with an airbag that feels and looks amazing. I had one in my Esprit. Changed out the hideous wheel in that car. Made a world of difference on how the car felt and how the interior looked. I will post pics when I get it installed... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice wheel! I looked at MaCarbon but all they do is refresh the ginormous stock one. Though I guess you could grab a 360 wheel and have them mod that? I'm still trying to figure out where you can get an aftermarket one that still has an airbag (would fail safety inspection here in VA without airbag).
Drop it into 1st gear, and floor the throttle. You can get the turn radius down to about 6 feet. Takes a bit of practice, watch out for constabulary observers.....
You don't need to do anything to a 360 wheel to fit it to a 355. Plenty of people here have done it. Here's mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does the airbag still function if you throw a 360 wheel on? And by "mod" I meant the 360 wheel wouldn't be enough for me and Macarbon would mod a stock 360 wheel and make it "cooler".
Yes. Hopefully. Pretty sure it does work as normal. I've had no issues with airbag light etc. I've never had a problem with the turning radius. As previously mentioned you could add a Challenge or Fiorano rack to quicken up the steering, but I doubt it would change the actual turning radius.
355 gets through a sharp U-turn to leave my home very easily. Do you complainers slow down enough to get the wheel completely turned before you actually start the "turn"?
Not a 355 but I find My 348's slow speed turning circle is a bit the large size also! (and I've not got any power steering to help out at parking speeds either!). Manoeuvres that could be completed in one go in My BMW become 3 or 5 point turns in the Ferrari! however, if that's the price I have to pay for the most direct and responsive steering I have ever encountered then it's a price worth paying! (the 348's steering really is like a large go-carts!)
Drive a 911 and you'll see what I mean. Oh and: video or it didn't happen. What's "sharp" to you may be quite large to me regarding uturns.
st4rk, Actually, I do drive a 911; it's parked right next to the 355. (I hate to admit that it looks rather dowdy there.) It's the last real 911. i.e. Porsche engineering called it a 911, not a 964, 993, etc. It's kind of the 348 equivalent with no power steering, air bags, etc.
My 997 feels more nimble and maneuverable around small city streets and parking vs the 355. But I don't put my 355 on a pedestal so I actually notice these things.
I do, and I believe in tit for tat. But some people can't handle my tit after their tat...take that as you will.
