The price is right; only $75,000. Anybody care to donate to a worthy cause? I can see myself living in such a place. PLENTY of room for EVERYTHING. Giant kitchen/cafeteria. Rooms for guests. Party in the auditorium. Who's in with me? Only drawback is the small town Kansas location. But that could be an advantage in these "terroristically inclined" times.

I would buy that in a heartbeat if I could. Imagine how much fun it would be. It's got basketball courts, a theater,.... everything. Man that's neat.

That'd be great to live in :)

75k + about 500k to make it livable.. bam instant 40,000 sq foot mansion.

Too bad it's in the middle of nowhere though. Even if I were old and retired I wouldn't want to live away from family.

It would make a good facility for long term storage for just about anything, including cars. Start a nationwide truck service for those leaving the country. Pick up the car when they leave and return it when they come back.

The cost would be prohibitive to make it habitable but only a sprinkler system needed for commercial applications. Internet shipping, light manufacturing etc..............

I wouldn't even think of tearing it down because of the hassle with all of hazardous materials involved, asbestos being the foremost.

It was perfectly habitable for kids just a few years ago. Give it to me and I will throw a rug on the floor, add a couch and a big screen TV, and open up the back loading dock door for any Ferrari that drives by.

I don't exactly call a fantastic $75,000 buy on a 36,000 square foot building to be something requiring the assistance of a "fat cat". The "true blue" fat cat is busy swindling millions of dollars from corporate retirement accounts and pension plans. They use their swindled money to build their own NEW mansions in South Beach, Acapulco, etc. Not too many of them retire to rural Kansas to live in an abandoned school.

Darth, you've obviously failed in your studies of FatCat 101. In the words of "The Donald",.....you're fired!

.........for attendence on a daily basis yes

For your own living quarters they probably wouldn't care.

What I had in mind was breaking it up into apartment or condominums. The codes are heavy for that. Fire, electrical and plumbing would all have to addressed.

I am sure there would have to be improvements for commercial use as well.

The biggest demon that I constantly run into is the evil spectre of asbestos. Unless you plan to move into an old building and live there, the asbestos problem has to be addressed. If everything is already sealed up and tidy, then no problem. But if you start ripping out walls and using a structure for commercial applications, then the OSHA and EPA boys start piling on their rules and everything goes downhill from there. There is a local abandoned nursing home that is about 80,000 square feet sitting on 25 acres of nice land. The whole mess is for sale around $95,000. The floor tiles and roof cement contain asbestos. The structure has been abandoned and vandalized for nearly 20 years. A total heap. But I wouldn't take it if you GAVE it to me, because it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up even BEFORE you paid for the demolition. A true toxic nightmare. So it sits rotting away, a late night home for the crack heads and meth cookers. What a waste.
