I heard on KNX1070 this morning that with the breakup of hostess they will no longer be offering Wonder Bread and HoHo's. Although I never really cared for Wonders white spongy dough bread, I always looked forward to those little HoHo'sto tide me over from break to lunchtime.
Hostess was a big company with many different bread brands around the country (home pride, merita, nissen) along with the most iconic baked treats that everyone knows and grew up with, Hostess - twinkies, Cupcakes, fruit pies, and donuts. PLUS Drakes Ring-Dings, Yodels, Devil Dogs, and Yankee Doodles. (Hostess Hoho's and Ding-dongs were just yodels and ring-dings re-branded) The Hostess Cupcakes with the white lace on top were amazing along with Yankee Doodles. They also had a lot of other snacks like sno-balls etc........ Poor management and lousy unions who are just destroying what's left of the industries they still work in are to blame. I grew up on this stuff and was never fat. No one can tell me the market has gone away with the fat epidemic we have these days. Anyway I bought a box of twinkies for a collectors item (even though I have to eat a GF diet these days)
Last time for me probably mid 1970s but ate choco Hostess cupcakes and Twinkies regularly till late teens. I tried a pack of Little Debbie cakes after hearing Larry the Cable Guy joke about them. Truly horrible- tasted like reconstituted sawdust and shredded paper with sugar and color added.
honestly the country is better off stuff's bad for you heh. Been years since I ate any of their stuff but after hearing the news I did grab a pack of zingers tasty sure but wow 400 calorie snack! I'm sure someone will buy the recipes etc. and keep it all going could be profitable without the unions and high wages involved
