So, I've been waffling on whether or not to post this, mainly because it really feels like I'm boasting or trying to sound cool. But then I realized that everyone here either has a Ferrari or at least is interested in them so I thought that I'd just post it because I think it's a cool story (plus none of my friends care).

Anyway, so here is the story: I live in Chicago but my business partner and I thought that it would be cool to bring our boat to Monaco (it's a long way from Chicago) for the Grand Prix (duh) and just to hang in the rest of the Med. for the summer. Like anyone with a boat at the race we wanted a premium slip so we could view the race from the boat. So, our captain scouted out the harbor and got Tiago Monteiro's slip (for a fat fee); but one of the main conditions of us renting the slip is that we host a party for the Midland team. I had nothing to do with arranging any of this but I'm "on board" with the idea. I think it will very very cool to just be there and pure gravy to be able to interact with one of the teams. I'm very fired up, this should be a very fun time.

And, of course I'll post pics when I'm back.

Send a PM to Chefrobear. He is a chef on a private yacht that is also going to Monaco, I think. Also a very interesting guy. Yachting in Monaco? Life sucks, doesn't it? Sounds like a great idea! Have a blast.

Sounds great! Have you been to the Monaco GP before? I've been every year since '92, so feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My cell is 443-255-0754, and I'll be at the Hotel Alexandra on Blvd. Princesse Charlotte in Monte Carlo from Wednesday afternoon, the 24th. Have big fun!

I don't know any of the details, what night, how many, etc...I'm sure it will end up being a bunch of the mechanics anyway. I fully expect the lolipop guy to get wasted and corner my girlfriend or something.

Q: how big? A: the boat is 127'

The rack of Lamb in the Grill Room at the Hotel de Paris.
(Ask them for the table under the skylight)

    Le Relais in Mougin. (Dinner)

    Columbe d'Ore (Lunch)

Club 55 in San Tropez. (Take Your boat, moor off the beach, and take your tender. (Lunch and beach)

The restaurant run by the monks on that island just off Cannes.
    Lunch- Lobster grilled in onions.

The cove opposite the Hotel just up the road from Cannes (Towards St. Tropez) where Hemingway wrote and based his unfinished Novel is great for swimming and sun. (Quiet)

Make sure your captain pulls back at least 50 FT from the Quay during the race and if you snag your anchor you can negoatiate with the divers. A bottle of Crystal and $100 should do it. (Remember Hotel du Cap only takes cash and be careful where you dock your tender some of those villas have guys with shotguns who don't like people who drop in unannounced)

Hi Noel. Sounds like a great plan. Pardon my ignorance but how long will it take from Chicago to Monaco by Yatch? Is the Monaco GP not soon? :)

The boat is in Genoa now. it only takes a few weeks from Ft. Lauderdale to the Med., it take a few weeks to get from Chicago to florida; it goes around Maine and up the St. Lawrence.

After the race we're headed to Barcelona.

Well said! It seems that even those less litigious Europeans have finally decided that there's too much potential liability in allowing the mega-yachts to remain so close to the action during the race . . .

Wow... I feel pretty lame right now. I'll be watching it from a La-Z-Boy, on a 13" black and white TV with rabbit ear antennas on CBS.

(Beverage of choice? Bud or Pabst)

    Just kidding! HAVE FUN!!!!

Are you looking for sponsorship to get you the full color TV setup? Or is it that you still prefer Gilligan's Island in B&W? I will step up for the color TV (19" so it is even bigger than the current TV), and a 12 pack of Corona That is a total value of $87 ($77 for the TV and $10 for the Corona), although it is already in the fridge. You will have to pick it up in person as the shipping costs are killer. I'll set up a fund to see if we can get you all the way up to a 25", so it will seem like you are right there, trackside!

Not going to make Monaco this year. The boat just left Bermuda and won't get there until the 1st. The race is on the 28th. Been there, done that and would never balk at being there again. However, can't see the race from most boats. I have had a standing invite for Juan Pablo Montoya's boat for the race each year. Can't see crap from the galley :) Who wants to work during a race, lol.
It will be SOOOOO Ausome. Party on!!!

Awww man, that sounds so cool. Going to the Monaco GP has to be on the "Top 10 things I must do before I die" list of any race fan.

    One of these days....

Enjoy .. and can't wait to see pics!

Don't be so sure. Monaco is THE race at which the teams entertain (and troll for new) sponsors, so I wouldn't be surprised to see those folks invited in an effort to show them a good time.
If you find yourselves in need of an American who can talk F1 to fill out the crowd, give me a call! I've met a number of drivers in MC over the years (Patrese, D. Hill, Panis, Coulthard, and even Michael once), but it's gotten harder as the years go by, since they're all becoming so preoccupied with mingling with sponsors.

We'll be there too, our fifth time, fourth on a boat; if you can, try to get some grandstand tickets too, you can't see too much from the boat, but it is a great place to stay. You will love it.

From Monaco, I'd head south to Corsica and Sardinia for a bit, Portocervo and the Costa Smeralda are beautiful. Villefranche, St. Tropez, and the Porquerolle Islands on the way east are great from a boat too.

Drive over to Eze (Village, not Bord de Mer) while you're in MC- very pretty. Also consider La Turbie, where the Trophee des Alpes is located. Both are very nearby and wothwhile.
