hey guys i'm a newbie TR owner and have discovered that these machines have a plethora of idiosynchracies.i need ur help on this one.cold start is consistently good but hot start results in intermittant non cranking of starter. I do get a click from the solenoid but no engagement of starter. Just had the starter rebuilt and put heat shield around solenoid.Guess what ... same crap! I took the starter back to the reputable rebuilder. He pulled it apart and said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I tried jumping battery , thinking theres a drop in voltage and that didnt do it.Please tell me this fix requires a match stick, paper clip and duck tape because I cant think about sinking mo money into my beloved car. These constant probs r taken the fun out of italian motoring

Maybe -- the stock Bosch solenoid seems to be more troublesome warm than the WAI (Ace Electric) brand replacement, but it wouldn't hurt to look at some of the connections between the ignition switch and the solenoid (and just unplugging/reseating them may give you some benefit/improvement). The easy ones to check for thermal damage are in the w connector, the y connector, and the C11 connector.

When you say "I do get a click from the solenoid but no engagement of starter" is it a very soft click (like the solenoid plunger is not really moving axially nor moving the pinion gear) or a hard/loud click (like the solenoid plunger is moving axially and moving the pinion gear, but the switch to connect the starter motor to the battery isn't working)?
