Hot Starter Problem Recured I was running hard on a nice day, got the oil up to about 225 and then finished the run up a long hill in third close to 6,000 rpm, then down the other side and stopped for gas. The heat soak was about five minutes and click, click, click. This is the first time that has happened since replacing starter a year ago. Then I let the car sit five more minutes and it started. I have my new low voltage Bosche intermediate solinoid so have no reason for panic. However, being very lazy, I now get gas first thing in the morning before full hot warm up. Then leave the car running at the Post Office, beer run, etc. And parking for groceries cools it down. Its a funny thing how avoiding a problem reduces the urgency to actually correct the problem once the fix is already firmly in hand. Its something I could install easy enough. Especially since my car does not have the cumbersome heat shield in place. On the otherhand, my local wrench likes working on the car and he is fastidious with such installations. The location, wiring and protective wire wrap would be professional looking. He still has my Mark VII which should be done in the next few weeks. So I might just give him a treat and have him do it. But I was really hoping the car would not need the fix! There is a tentative mitigation. The almost dead right window lift seems to have gained a second wind!
The Mondials get you into rituals Go for a longer drive and first make the necessary stops to get gas and food. I think if we will put all the rituals together we have no reasons to make up for a longer drive as all the rituals already take a whole morning
+1 On most cars the addition of a relay is a considered a bit of a bodge, bypassing another problem, but on these cars (and 328) its a perfectly valid modification. The current path to the solenoid is just too long and convoluted with too many connectors to have any margin of error with the high current demands of the solenoid. Adding the relay overcomes this completely.
The rituals just add to the Mystic of owing a Ferrari. Further spreading the belief that these cars are not for ordinary Mortals! Only the "special few" can even conceive of owing one. LOL..excuse me while I put my waders on. It's getting deep. Sid
