So I've started collecting Hot Wheels Racing 1/43 Ferrari F1 cars and was wondering if anyone else collects these or other 1/43's. I know minichamps makes them but those were a little bit out of my budget.

Anyways my question was along the lines of taking them out of the packaging. I know in most cases collectables are better in the packaging, but I wanted to cut the sticker seal and add the marlboro decals and put them back in the box. Is it the box that keeps the value, or does the sticker need to be in place as well? Of course this leads to the other question of will adding the marlboro stickers devalue them as well? If they do then I obviously won't bother opening the packages in the first place. Thanks for any replies.

My $0.02: Do whatever makes you happy and enhances your enjoyment of the model. I don't understand the concept of people buying models as "investments" and having a room full of mint, untouched, unopened cars. Unless a model is actually so rare that it is going to increase in value (significantly), take them out and enjoy them.

I reckon, anything or boxes that are unopened and untouched will definitely keep more of their value. In otherwords their ROI is higher then their opened and touched counterparts.

I have a room full of 1:18 F cars... some rare, some less so... my 2 cents: take 'em out and enjoy them, but keep all the boxes/packing stuff. Also, for what it's worth - when I buy a model, from ebay for example, I like to know that it has at least been out of the box and inspected - so you know it's not going to be a factory damaged item... just my $0.02... love to see pics of your collection...

I have all of the HW, Onyx, Minichamps, Quartzo, and Vitesse LaStoria F1 Ferraris. Do what you want with them. Only a few of the Minichamps have increased a lot in value. The HW ones are all over Ebay, so you can get multiples if you want to modify some.

Here are the HW 1/43 F1:

Can you post a pic of the F2004 with MS getting out of the car?

Wondeful collection, I'll have to keep my eye out for that F2004, even the regular ones don't come up on Ebay too often.
