I just purchased this at Auto Zone today. I figure everyone has seen these before but I was a bit bored and decided to shoot a couple of photos and ask a question.

Since I have never purchased any kind of collectible item, is there anything I need to know? I know that question seems silly now that I reread it, but the guy working the counter at Auto Zone told me not to open the box. I had never considered NOT opening the box. But since he told me not to, I didn't.

I am impressed with the car. I have to admit however, the McLaren was gorgeous. I almost bought one.

I would open the box. It displays better. Those cardboard/plastic boxes look like crap. If the item is very limited, or special in some way, sure, keep it in the box. But those hot wheels models are a dime a dozen.

The way I see it is Im not buying these to sell down the road. If my models are worth a fortune in 50 years, so be it. I will keep every one of them. Thats why I say take them out of those crappy boxes. If your worried about dust, you can buy really nice wood/glass displays that look great.
